Henrietta (Crofts) Paulet is Notable.

Born about 1682 Henrietta Crofts was bastard daughter of Eleanor Needham and her lover, James Scott, Duke of Monmouth, troublesome bastard son of the King, Charles II Stuart.[1][2] The King died in February 1685 [3] and was succeeded by his Roman Catholic brother, James II. Henrietta's father led an armed rebellion with the intention of making himself King, but he was defeated at the Battle of Sedgemoor on 6th of July and was beheaded at Tower Hill on the 15th. [4] Henrietta was about 3 years old.

At some time before 15 October 1697 at Dublin in Ireland Henrietta married twice widowed Charles Paulet, Duke of Bolton, son ofCharles Paulet and his wife, Mary Scrope. [1] They had one child, a son whom they called Nassau. [1]

She died on 27 February 1730[1] and was buried at Basing.[1]

Research Notes

A letter from Alan St. Leger, a landowner from County Cork (Public Records Office of Northern Ireland, Chancery Papers: Ridgeway-Pitt estate, T/3425/2/23) refers to a visit he made to James Cotter, who was tried and convicted for rape and whose father assassinated John Lisle which states ‘I told him when he was under sentence of death that he ought to prepare himself for I really thought if all my friends could do would avail nothing for his father stabb’d my Lord Lisle the Dutchess of Bolton’s grandfather and gott the estate by ye means.’

St. Leger’s letter has subsequently been cited by other historians, but no one makes any effort to validate that she was in fact the grand-daughter of Lord Lisle.
