Detailed Reviews
We have just spend one day on Key West ( first time away from our newborn son). We have stayed on the island 5 times and Douglas house was no different than our other experiences in Key West. Beautiful! Our room had a great private entrance off one of the side streets and was a simple room that was more than comfortable and clean. We have stayed at the bigger resorts on stock island and northern Kew West and also other Bed and breakfasts off Duval. The staff were friendly and prompt. The location being on the east end of Duval allows you to be close enough to not only the main strip but also to Bahamian village. If you haven’t considered that area check out blue heaven for breakfast! But get there early. Beautiful stay and one of the many reasons Key West is our special place! Thank you Douglas house!

We highly recommend the Douglas House. We have been visiting on and off for 20 years. The original long-time owners were from Rhode Island. The current owners are a well-known Key West family that has renovated all the guest rooms and bathrooms. The website photos are accurate and highlight the lovely gardens and shared pool on the property. The rooms are fresh, clean, comfortable and spacious. Being a half block from the quiet end of historic Duval Street puts this guest house in a premier location. We have treated ourselves and our overflow family and houseguests there 8 nights in 2022 alone. Everyone loves it!

World class service!!
The manager, Joe, is professional, prompt (returning phone calls) , polite, pleasant, and accommodating.
The staff is exceptionally pleasant and attentive. The room and facilities are clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Everything was wrapped in plastic wrapping to ensure sanitation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This included remote controls and the towels they provided us frequently. All in all, it was a solid five stars experience: world class service at your local Key West BnB.

We loved Douglas House! It’s only 1 building behind Duval Street, but it’s very quiet and cozy! If you’re looking to experience Key West and have a more relaxing adults only place then this could be the place for you. Ages 16 and up only. We did not see any teenagers there. It’s a small place with a nice small pool and beautiful tropical vegetation all around. Everything was spotless. We always saw someone cleaning or upgrading something almost all day every day. This is not a party place and they don’t allow groups larger than 6 to keep the atmosphere they are shooting for. This was wonderful for us. We had a unit on the 2nd floor with a deck overlooking the pool area. We had a table and chairs for meals on the deck plus 2 Adirondack chairs. There is a mini kitchenette which is very helpful. Ours had a small fridge, microwave, blender, toaster and coffee maker. We used all the appliances every day. One thing missing in that area is a sink. Hopefully that will be added next time they renovate. The only sink is in the bathroom. They were a few dishes and silverware provided. Bedroom was spacious. We had 2 queen beds which were a little firm, but comfortable. Living room is small but good for 2 people. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Housekeeping came very day to see if you needed anything and brought it immediately after you told them. At present they are not routinely cleaning rooms that are occupied. We would definitely consider returning if in the area.

Room Tip: Parking out front is hit or miss, but they do have a lot 1 block down the street.

We stayed in 1108D which is a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment with a lovely balcony overlooking Duval St., in late February just before the pandemic. The pool area was great and the location was perfect. The staff were very helpful and friendly and made you feel welcome. We were already planning our return someday on our way home! In addition, I forgot a few pieces of clothing in a drawer and they were quite happy to assist me in having the items shipped back to me in Canada- thanks to Kim and the manager - very appreciative of the excellent customer service!

We are currently at this property. Our air conditioning doesn’t work and it’s 96 degrees in Key West today. The staff said that the AC person couldn’t come until Monday (it’s Friday). They put three fans in our room. All this does is circulate hot air. We were told that to accommodate us they would take $75 off per night or we could check out and get a full refund. We returned to our room & it was just too hot. We decided to check out and they are now saying they are keeping $50!!!! We can’t speak to the manager or anyone other than a front desk clerk. No customer service whatsoever if u have an issue! I looked over the TINIEST pool I’ve ever seen & pool towels you can literally see through because of the location. But no air in July in Key West & charging us $50?!??? Just insane!!!!

Response from Joe Woods, General Manager at Douglas House
Responded Jul 10, 2023
I am sorry you feel that the room was not cool enough for you at 70 degrees after having the door open to your porch during the middle of the afternoon. There is a heat wave! We did call the AC company to come out even though we already new that the AC was working fine and just need a bit to cool down more after leaving the door open. The AC company confirmed it was working properly. You were given a full refund this review is unfair to say the least.

West Sussex, United Kingdom195 contributions177 helpful votesMy wide and I recently spent 3 nights at Douglas House and we had a really great stay. Douglas House is but a stone's throw from Duval Street but has a really peaceful, quiet location with free parking directly outside (a real surprise). The hosts were very welcoming upon our arrival and gave us a mini tour of Douglas House, which has buildings on both sides of Amelia Street. The buildings are of traditional Key West style and the grounds are gorgeous. The small but nice pool was an unexpected bonus. Our room (more like a 1 bedroom apartment with full kitchen) was on the upper floor only accessible via stairs (OK for us but may be an issue for some). It was spotlessly clean and really attractively furnished. We had a very comfortable stay. Wi-fi worked perfectly.
Overall, there is a lot to like about Douglas House and precious little to criticise. The rates are a bit pricey but that seems to be par for Key West. Would we return there for another stay? You bet!

Spent 2 nights in this great spot off the beaten path, but close to everything. This collection of houses has been cobbled into delightfully comfortable guest rooms with a pool and common areas in the middle. Clean and modern with a fridge, tv, air conditioners, very comfortable. Just a few steps off Duval street with tons if shops, bars, restaurants and live music.

Very convenient for a family stay. The apartment was divided into a sleeping and living/dining area and had all you need to feel like home. Well taken care off and clean. Beds very comfortable. Perfect location.

Our room certainly did. It had pretty much a full kitchen. Not sure if all rooms are so equipped. Suggest you contact Douglas House and check with them.
I am not sure, I didn’t see the palm palmetto room. There are many rooms at the House. There are also rooms in the adjacent building not attached to the house. I forget which room we stayed in but it was a 2 bedroom. If the couch is a full size (not love seat) then I’d say yes.
