The DPA or Data Protection Authority is an independent public authority that supervises the application of the data protection law, handles data breach reports and protects the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals (data subjects) related to the processing of personal data.

The DPA should provide advice on all data protection matters and issues and handle complaints against the violation of the General Data Protection Regulation.
Supervisory authorities are expected to have a more proactive role and constantly monitor the pulse of the general public as well as create a dialogue with the national legislative authorities.

As a data controller or data processor, you may be obligated to inform your contacts about their right to lodge a complaint and provide information about Supervisory Authority.

You can also contact Supervisory Authority if you need advice, if you have any insecurities or questions about the way you handle or process personal data, or if you want to check if there is any national law that you should consider when processing personal data.
As an individual or data subject, you can file a complaint to your Data Protection Authority if you feel your GDPR-guaranteed rights were violated.
