Top 179 Songs With the Word “Heart” in the Title

1
My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion

Let’s not beat around the bush here. One of the biggest “heart” songs of all time is Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” This song was released on her fifth studio album in 1997, but even more importantly, it was the main song on the soundtrack to James Cameron’s blockbuster hit “Titanic.”

This song was such a major hit that it’s known as Dion’s signature song. It sold over 19 million copies, making it one of the highest-selling singles of all time. And the second-best-selling single by a woman in music history.

Celine’s vocals start soft and tender before sweeping into a big crescendo. This is a powerful ballad that just knocks you off your feet. It has everything – soaring strings, a choir, even a strategic key change. “Near, far, wherever you are,” this song can’t help but pluck at your heartstrings.

2
Stereo Hearts – Gym Class Heroes (feat. Adam Levine)

A very different type of song about the human heart. “Stereo Hearts” by Gym Class Heroes is a fun, Pop-infused, Hip-Hop track that came out in 2011.

This song features Adam Levine of Maroon 5 fame. It benefits from him singing the hook – “My heart’s a stereo – It beats for you, so listen close – Hear my thoughts in every note” – making you want to sing along, too.

This song is a departure from Gym Class Heroes’ normal Funk, Rap, and Reggae influences. There’s more Pop here, and it’s both cute and successful. It’s about two hearts working in stereo, making for a precious modern metaphor.

3
Heart of Glass – Blondie

Even though Blondie singer Debbie Harry was one of the earliest enthusiasts of Hip Hop, this song moves us from Rap to Disco-Pop. “Heart of Glass” is Blondie’s most memorable song. One that’s still played on the radio daily, despite having been released in 1978.

This song is light and pleasant, even if the subject matter isn’t. With lines like “Once I had a love and it was a gas – Soon turned out had a heart of glass”, the song is about failures in love and how a heart can shatter like it’s made of glass.

4
Where Do Broken Hearts Go? – Whitney Houston

Songstress Whitney Houston delivers another power ballad on our list of songs with the word “heart” in the title. “Where do Broken Hearts Go?” was recorded by Houston in 1988 and was another #1 hit for the singer.

Furthermore, it was her seventh #1 hit in a row, setting a record for strings of hits that still hasn’t been beaten yet.

This song has a somewhat wistful, questioning meaning…

Houston asks, “Where do broken hearts go? – Can they find their way home – Back to the open arms – Of a love that’s waiting there?” She seems to be wondering if love can be repaired after a major heartbreaking incident. For you, Whitney, I’d say yes.

5
Where Do Broken Hearts Go – One Direction

Issues of the heart have always been great fodder for boy bands. With 2014’s “Where Do Broken Hearts Go,” One Direction takes the same name as Houston’s song but has a completely different take on a similar sentiment.

This is a different song, not a cover…

The band uses excellent production to create a powerful, driving Pop song full of juicy boy-singer choruses and harmonies. This song is about making a big mistake and hurting someone you love, then trying to find a way to get that person back.

The boys sing, “Now, I’m searching every lonely place – Every corner calling out your name – Trying to find you but I just don’t know – Where do broken hearts go?” and you’ll find yourself singing right along with them.

6
I’ll Never Break Your Heart – Backstreet Boys

Speaking of boy band hits, it doesn’t get a lot bigger than “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” by the Backstreet Boys. This song came out on the group’s debut album back in 1995 and was an instant adult contemporary hit, putting the band on the map.

This is a smooth, slow, R&B-style ballad that features the boys’ crystal-clear vocals. The heartfelt lyrics promise enough undying love and loyalty to melt the hardest of hearts.

They sing, “I’ll never break your heart – I’ll never make you cry – I’d rather die than live without you – I’ll give you all of me – Honey, that’s no lie” and make you believe it, too.

7
Closer to the Heart – Rush

One of the few songs on this list of heart songs that are not about romance, “Closer to the Heart” is a very different animal. This classic rocker by Canadian legends Rush was released on their fifth album, A Farewell to Kings, back in 1977.

You’ve got everything here the Rush is famous for. Geddy Lee’s shrill vocals, Alex Lifeson’s detailed guitar work, and Neil Pert’s legendary drum work.

This is a short song from this band, and poppier than most. Rather than romance, this song is about promoting a change in society towards doing things from the heart, rather than just thinking about money.

8
Heart-Shaped Box – Nirvana

Another not-so-romantic song (“I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black”? Come on!) is “Heart-Shaped Box” by Grunge punks Nirvana. It comes from their 1993 album In Utero. This song is typical Nirvana, with a quieter verse followed by a screechy, explosive chorus.

Kurt Cobain said he wrote the song about kids with cancer. But there’s so much chaotic imagery here that you can see in it what you will. Probably not romance, though.

9
Listen to Your Heart – Roxette

In 1988, Swedish Pop-Rock duo Roxette dropped their second album, Look Sharp, with “Listen to Your Heart” as its second single. This album rocked the charts, and this track made its way to #1. This is a mournful, sad song about making a tough decision in love.

“Listen to your heart when he’s calling for you – Listen to your heart, there’s nothing else you can do – I don’t know where you’re going and I don’t know why – But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye.”

If you need a song to help you build up the nerve to go through a painful breakup, this is probably the one.

10
Achy Breaky Heart – Billy Ray Cyrus

Billy Ray Cyrus has gone on to near-infamy with music, reality TV, and even fatherhood. But, before all that, he was a hunky Country singer with a single, massive Country-Pop crossover hit, “Achy Breaky Heart,” that made the ladies scream.

This was his biggest hit until “Old Town Road” with Lil Nas X 27 years later. In 1992, though, this was apparently all anyone wanted to hear.

This is a break-up song as well. Cyrus implores his ex to tell anyone anything they like about the breakup, but just not to tell his achy-breaky heart. He just don’t think it’d understand, and it might blow up and kill this man.

11
Anyone Who Had A Heart – Dionne Warwick / Dusty Springfield

Speaking of legendary Country songs, “Anyone Who Had A Heart” by Dusty Springfield sure stands out. This song describes a sad and painful relationship, saying, “Anyone who had a heart

Would take me in his arms and love me.” Dusty gave this song a graceful Country feel back in 1964.

But the song is even older than that…

It was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick in 1963. Warwick’s version was slow, sad, soulful, and beautiful. This song has also been covered by Cilia Black, Atomic Kitten, Shirley Bassy, Tim Curry, and many more.

12
Heart of Gold – Neil Young

Like most of us, Neil Young was searching for a “Heart of Gold” back in 1972 when he put out this song on his legendary fourth album, Harvest. This was the Canadian singer-songwriter’s only #1 hit in the US, and there’s a good reason why. With Young’s fragile voice, it sounds just so raw and honest.

The lyrics to this slow tune are poignant as well. “I want to live – I want to give – I’ve been a miner – For a heart of gold.” Precious.

13
Cold, Cold Heart – Hank Williams / Aretha Franklin

“Cold, Cold Heart” is a song written and recorded by Hank Williams in 1950. This is a classic honky-tonk song, filled with heartbreak and mournful sadness. It’s about trying to love someone who has been hurt in the past and whose heart has gone cold.

When Aretha Franklin covered the tune in 1964, she brought to it a whole new soulful feeling. Her vocals soar while still full of heartbreak as she sings, “In anger unkind words are said – That make the teardrops start – Why can’t I free your doubtful mind – And melt your cold, cold heart.”

14
Don’t Go Breaking My Heart – Elton John & Kiki Dee

Elton John famously tipped his hat to “Cold, Cold Heart” in his song “Sacrifice.” But, he’s on this list of songs with the word “heart” in the title for a happier, much more fun song – “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

This 1976 duet was a mix of Motown and Disco styles, creating a fun, Pop mix that’s a born karaoke hit. This song is just sweet and lovely, and the music is a whole lot of fun, too. That’s why it went to #1 and also went platinum.

15
Groove Is In the Heart – Deee-lite

Here’s another track that’s not about romance, but other feelings in the heart – namely, groove. “Groove Is In the Heart” is a 1990 funky track from Deee-lite’s debut album.

It features samples from Herbie Hancock, Vernon Bunch, and Parliament, plus vocals from Bootsy Collins and rap by Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest. This song is funky, fun, and amazing to dance to, making it a 90s Neo-Funk/Dance classic.

16
Don’t Phunk With My Heart – Black Eyed Peas

The Black Eyed Peas also came out with a funky, or should I say phunky song, in 2005 that became a big hit for the group.

It features Fergie singing the pre-chorus and the hook (“No, no, no no – Don’t phunk with my heart”) and the other members laying down rap verses. It mixes all sorts of sounds, with a strong Hindi-inspired beat, strings, a Mellotron, and a lot of other goodies.

Of course, this is a song about the dangers of looking for love in the modern world. Something we can all relate to.

17
Un-Break My Heart – Toni Braxton

Toni Braxton recorded one of the most powerful songs about heartbreak on her second album, Secrets, back in 1996. This is a sad song of powerful loss and deep heartache caused by a lover who “walked out of the door and walked out of my life.”

It’s a tremendously strong performance that has jerked many a tear from Braxton’s fans’ eyes. It also turned out to be a huge success, winning a Grammy and selling more than ten million copies.

Is it possible to un-break a heart and put the pieces back together? Toni’s deep, smooth, and powerful voice might just be enough to make it happen.
