In St Oswalds Churchyard you will find the grave of William Wordsworth, famous Lakeland poet, and his family. He died, aged 80, on St Georgess Day, 23rd April 1850.
William planted 8 of the yew trees in this churchyard, one marks the grave of him and his wife Mary. Nearby are buried his sister Dorothy, his children Dora, William, Thomas and Catherine. Marys sister Sarah Hutchinson and other family members are also buried here. There is also the grave of Hartley Coleridge, eldest son of Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
St Oswalds is now one of the most visited literary shrines in the world.
