I lived in Reno and worked at the Comstock Casino 35 years ago. The entire down town was alive both day & night, with casino's door to door, and people constantly on the go, 24 hours a day. Used to love to go to Harrah's and watch the live entertainment. Buffets, gambling, music, dancing, drinks, the lights....it was such a fun and exciting city then.
I came back the summer of 2019, and my mouth literally hung open when I went down town and saw what it has become. What happened? There's very little left of "The Biggest Little City". I saw only a couple of casino's remain, the rest are either torn down, or have been repurposed. There's absolutely no life there anymore. There's pawn shops, souvenoir shops, and homeless people every where. I did not even get out of my vehicle. I was stunned. I could not believe what I was seeing. One of my most favorite places to stop for food and a couple beers (not a casino) has been demolished and replaced by a baseball stadium. Who wants to go to Reno to watch a minor league baseball game? Things change in time, but Reno has died.
I drove to the Peppermill Casino, went inside, it is still a nice place, but I played the slots for about an hour, and could not get a drink. Not one person approached me and asked if I needed or wanted anything. They don't do that anymore in the casino's? Wow....I was heart broken to see what such a once fun place with a great night life, had become. I drove a very long distance to revisit Reno, and had plans on getting a nice resort / casino hotel room, and going out on the town for a night of gambling & revisiting the town. I got there to Reno, and within 3 hours I was gone again. Reno has died, and will never be revived. Sad to see this.

Concisely stated: my wife and I enjoyed a 2 night stay at the Harrah's in Reno the summer before last and we were richly rewarded. We had a friendly greeting upon check in and check out. The room was spacious and with a pleasant view. The pool and excercise area was fanatstic and the chioce of eating estsablishments were enjoyable as well. The price during the week was very reasonable and we have recommended Harrah's to many of our friends and when in Reno next time(soon I hope) we plan on staying there again. I almost forgot the stage show featuring Gordie Smith(or something close to that) who put on a great show at Sammy's theatre. So-keep up the great resort hospitality. See you soon. I was visiting Reno from Hawaii with a group of 7 friends. On 11/6/05 at approximately 4:30 p.m. we traveled to the Reno Harrah's Casino to play Pai Gow Poker and sat down at the far left end table with my husband. The Dealer was a slender Caucasian woman approx. in her 50's with blonde hair. She dealt the cards to us. When I picked up my hand she berated me, "put those cards down!! You don't touch the cards until I verify that I have 4 cards left!! Do you understand me?!" I was so shocked that I was actually speechless. Then she repeated herself again in a louder voice. I have never been treated so rudely by anyone ever. That completely ruined my trip to Harrah's where we had planned to stay the night. We left the premises immediately and will never return to Harrah's again.

I have always heard Reno was the "best" place to go for the penny slots. Maybe it was the week before and after I was there. Harrahs hotel was very good, restaurants there were great. Neighboring casinos were a HUGE disappointment (Silver Legacy, Nugget, Atlantis, Peppermill, Circus Circus, Grand Sierra) with the exception of Cal-Neva. The staff at all locations was frendly enough and slot attendants were always prompt when needed, but for someone who was expecting a BIT better payout as advertised, I was disappointed. If you are close by, then certainly stop by Reno and Lake Tahoe. But if more than an hour away, don't waste the gas money. Lake Tahoe's attraction is that it is water in the middle of the desert. If that excites you, go.

The security in casino should be enforced more. The first night there a gentleman was standing not too far behind a woman at the slots, i was fairly close. Security came & checked him out & sent him on his way out the door. He didn't look like a homeless. Then the next two nights there was a man with a cane carrying a phone book, checking for tickets left on machines, came past me & smelled terrible. I said something to a security person, he said "i think he's not all there", nothing was done. Then also i saw a very dirty lady, her face/hands were terrible, had a backpack & walking all throughout the casino with a machine ticket in her hand. Never saw anyone question her. Also, near me a "ragged" looking man & woman (also dirty appearing) came up to gentleman playing next to me wanting a cigarette. When he said no, they walked away, further into the casino. Believe security should do a better job at keeping the homeless out of the casino. We like the casino & realize Reno has a problem. Don't know if we'll be back or not.

I can't help but wonder if, considering the overall state of the downtown Reno casinos and the economy, Harrah's Entertainment (or I guess now they've changed their name to Caesar's Entertainment) has put Harrah's Reno into the hospice category, giving it pallative, but not curative care anymore. Compared to what was their major rival at one time, the Eldorado across the street, the Harrah's was near-dead, with at best 20% of the gaming tables staffed during the workweek, a few more in the evening, and dealers and pit bosses largely seeming to be going through the motions (their permitting gaming staff to wear Reno Aces t-shirts rather than uniforms doesn't help -- they look like a bunch of slobs rather than a casino). Slot machines seems to be dated with far less of the newer electronic games than the other first-rank Reno casinos and overall the place just seemed to be lacking in energy.

Cocktail service, at least at the gaming tables remained generally good, however, even though once again those t-shirts made the waitresses look like amateurs.

Okay, I'm not much of a gambler, but I enjoyed Harrah's casino the most during our recent trip to Reno. We were there with some friends for the national bowling tournament and visited most casinos to collect our freebies as tournament bowlers. We mainly played slots at each.

The casino workers were the most friendly of all the casinos we visited (El Dorado, Silver Legacy, Atlantis, Fitzgerald's, Boomtown). They also had a couple of games that no other casino seemed to have. Namely, video roulette. Instead of fighting other people at the table to lean over and place bets, each person sat at a chair with a video screen in front of them. You simply touched the screen to place your bet. The dealer then released the ball and a live camera watched where it landed on the wheel. It was very relaxing and played well.

We'll definitely go back to Harrah's on our next trip to Reno!

I was visiting family in Reno for Christmas and the weather was bad,so I booked a room at Harrah's. They stated the only had a handicap room which was fine except it didn't have a bath. I called and they graciously moved me to another handicap room with a tub. I put my granddaughter in the bath and then I went to join her and noticed black mold all around the metal bars. It was bad!! I took my granddaughter out and immediately called the front desk. At first the clerk tried to downplay and say that the hotel is using dark grout. Please....don't disrespect my intelligence. I happened to have a friend in the room that does construction for a living...It was mold! Then we were moved to another room..a standard room with two double beds. I took a smoking room because that is all they had available. During the move , we left our coats in the "mold" room. I was told the bellman would bring them up. Frustrated because we had to make a dinner party and wait for about 45 min. Finally, our coats arrived. Okay , this is Christmas, so I had taken out the Bible while I was waiting to remind myself not to get angry...My granddaughter has a ipad, and my daughter stated that she would put it in the drawer. We left for our party. When we came back, we hadn't even unpacked when I sat on the bed, exhausted. I look over by the curtain and notice a diaper. It was not my granddaughters and it was filled with feces. I was ready to cry. We called the front desk and they sent housekeeping to remove it. She came with a gloves and a plastic bag. Now I'm disgusted...the mgr. stated he would give me $20.00 off my room ...What!!! My daughter stated she had pictures and then they offered us a suite. So again we move, take note , this is at 11:30. We enter the room and there is a loud sound. I hit the bed and my daughter calls the maintenance mechanic. He states that we have a broken water pipe. They fix it and my daughter goes out to enjoy the casino. I get a phone call about 12 , asking if the problem is fixed. I was sound asleep....grrrr...Then as we awake the next morning , we realize that during the move we left my granddaughters ipad in the drawer. Surely, the maid would have noticed since she would have to put the Bible back. No, she didn't and they rented the room...I was not about to leave until they gave me the $500.00 ipad. Hours later, security, housekeeping and mgmt. we get the ipad. So the maid put the Bible in the drawer and didn't notice an ipad...why would I think different? They gave us a room with a dirty diaper sitting against the drapes.Sick over the room changes and lack of sleep, I asked for another night. Okay, they give me another night comped, but on the west side. Finally, I get a full night of sleep..Then when checking out, I was charged a $2.00 sitting fee for every room change. Really? It was their fault for all the room changes...Ghetto!!! Oh , I must applaud them for a $30.00 food credit.Never again....and my daughter states that I should contact corporate because Harrah's is suppose to be top of the line...not in my book!

The casino was kind of dirty, the washroom right near the exist was not very clean, perhaps a lot of homeless people use that washroom as it is near the exit door, never saw a cocktail waitress the entire time were there.
