Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

“When we feel ill, our bodies show signs, or symptoms, of our illness, like a runny nose or a fever. In just the same way, the Earth is beginning to show signs of disease.” Adapted from and published simultaneously as its adult version and companion film, Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World, this direct appeal asks readers to consider global sustainability. Using simple text and relatable analogies, the Prince of Wales describes a planet in crisis from climate changes and shows how its inhabitants can restore harmony by observing nature’s patterns and the interdependence of plants and animals. Examples of biomimicry, such as glue produced at low temperatures, inspired by mussels that “glue” themselves to underwater structures, will interest budding environmentalists, as will the stunning color photographs, ranging from the earth viewed from outer space to a gecko smaller than a fingertip. Although it doesn’t offer many specific tips, this inspirational plea encourages children to think about their world and its future. Grades K-3. --Angela Leeper
