I'm finally... FREE! The people of this planet... will pay for what they've done to me.
~ The Krang Leader’s first words declaring his upcoming revenge on Earth after being freed from the prison dimension.
Let me guess: duty?
~ Krang mockingly asking Leo why he came back for his brother, and his most famous quote.
Weak words. Weak actions! I have forever known what you fail to understand! STRENGTH... ALWAYS... PREVAILS!
~ Krang foolishly proclaiming his philosophy while crushing Leo before he tells him otherwise, and his most infamous quote.

The Krang Leader is the overarching antagonist of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the main antagonist of Nickelodeon's 38th feature film, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie.

He is the insidious leader of the Krang, who seeks to remake the entire universe as he sees should be fit without any weak beings alongside is sister and brother. He serves as Leonardo's archenemy and one of the greatest foes of the Ninja Turtles.

He was voiced by Jim Pirri, who also played Rais in Dying Light, Grimbyte in Bunnicula, Akeel Min Riah in Call of Duty: Infinity Warfare, Clive Cross in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Angelo Bronte in Red Dead Redemption 2, The Executioner in Batwoman and Kraven the Hunter in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Appearance[]

The Krang Leader appears as a tall light purple blob with menacing orange eyes and red pupils, sharp teeth and tentacles. His battle suit, where he resides in the stomach, resembles an alien creature with one red eye, hind legs and a tail. After he merged with his mech suit, the Leader has arms and legs with a head.

Personality[]

The Krang Leader is an extremely ruthless, vile, megalomaniacal, arrogant, narcissistic and power-hungry alien warlord who strongly believes in the "survival of the fittest" and "might makes right" and sees himself and his kind as superior to all other beings. He also sometimes showcases that he only really cares about himself and shows apathy at the fact that only three of his species exist. He views things such as duty and honor as meaningless. His biggest trait is his arrogance, seeing himself as a gift to the Earth, claiming he was saving the "weak planet" as he put it. Though not to the same extent as his sister, the Krang Leader is shown to be sadistic, clearly finding pleasure in watching Leo being forced to fight the zombified Raph.

The Krang Leader's arrogance is also his greatest weakness as it causes him to underestimate his enemies, despite managing to knock them all down quick in the first and second fight, no matter how many times, they all prove Krang wrong that they’re not weak, and he continues to call them weak when Krang himself is the one who’s truly weak on the inside, both mind and soul, the best example being during his final fight against Leo he constantly looked down on the young mutant, not realizing the latter's plan to trap him back in the Prison Dimension before it was too late, causing Krang to be ultimately outsmarted for strongly underestimating his enemies. Despite his normally calm demeanor, the Krang Leader can show extreme aggression once pushed past his breaking point. This is shown after both re-imprisoned in the Prison Dimension and the Technodrome's destruction, (after a brief moment of bewilderment) he displayed unbridled fury and proceeds to brutally pummel Leo to near-death.

Powers and Abilities[]

The Krang Leader is a capable leader of his kind. On his own, he is a formidable opponent, and becomes nigh-unstoppable in his battle suit; an example of this is when the Krang Leader is able to repel the Ninja Turtles' Hot Soup Hibernator with just a single finger flick. He also has an ability to lock away the mystical abilities of others by roaring.

Biography[]

Past[]

Long ago, the Krang Leader led his people in conquering the cosmos, decimating world after world in their wake. Throughout his conquests, he heard many heroes speak about their duties, though he believed that they were just words used by the weak.

Around a millennium ago, the Krang invaded Earth, but four mystic warriors used a mystical key to seal them all within a prison dimension, including their leader. While trapped, the Krang slowly began to die out, leaving the leader and his two siblings as the only survivors.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie[]

In modern day, the Foot Clan hired Hypno-Potamus and Warren Stone to track down the keystone and retrieve it. Their goal was interrupted by the Mad Dogs; Raphael managed to secure it away from them with his mystic aural form, but his aura's arm was chopped off by Leonardo's portal in hubris. Hypno retrieved the stone and it was taken from him by the Foot Lieutenant, who took it back to the new Foot headquarters to summon the Krang.

After the future rebel soldier Casey Jones convinced the Mad Dogs of the Foot Clan's plan to unleash the Krang, they headed off to stop the plan from being fulfilled. They failed, and Krang One stepped through the gate. The Mad Dogs attempted to fight him off, but he proved to be able to match them in combat. Their efforts were further hindered when Krang One opened sets of gills on his sides and shouted, nullifying the Turtles and April's mystic powers. Krang One's siblings, Krang Two and Krang Three, subsequently exited the portal. Krang One instructed Krang Three to expand the portal so they could retrieve their spaceship, the Technodrome. Leo was able to secure the keystone again, temporarily preventing the Technodrome from arriving, but Raphael was subsequently attacked. Raph secured his Donnie Pod onto Leo and allowed him to escape with the keystone, while Raph ended up captured and assimilated into a Krang zombie.

With Raph's help, they ascended to the top of Metro Tower to open another portal, this time succeeding in retrieving the Technodrome, as well as the Krang's titans. Krang One sat upon a skull throne while his brother controlled the Technodrome and his sister acted as an enforcer.

The remaining Turtles their way inside the Technodrome, while April, Casey, and Splinter battle Krang Two back on the Earth's surface. Leo heads to attempt to free Raph from the Krang, facing his brother as well as Krang One, and Michelangelo and Donatello sever Krang Three's connection to the Technodrome, allowing Don to meld with the organic controls and briefly take over the ship before Krang One detaches him from the controls.

With the three Turtles captured by Krang One and beginning to become assimilated, Leo manages to reach Raph's true self and he shrugs off the transformation. Each of the other Turtles pushes through their assimilation and they all regain their mystic powers. The four Turtles brawl against Krang One on the surface of the Technodrome, seemly to overpower Krang and although they all form together to attack with a giant mystic aura combination, Krang One in a desperate last-ditch effort with a single flick of his new mech's finger pushes back all the Turtles surprisingly when their powers were combined. Krang One then attacks Donnie and Mikey, and the former barely has any time to protect them both before the two are sent flying across New York City and away from Technodrome. Leo uses a portal to send Raph after him, and they land on Staten Island.

Leo continues to fight Krang One alone as Casey finally makes it to the keystone. Leo instructs him to pull it out once he and Krang One are both on the other side, as it's the only way he can keep the alien from coming back before the portal is closed. Leo throws one of his katanas into the portal and stabs Krang One's titan with it, teleporting them both into the prison dimension. Casey tearfully does as instructed, trapping them both inside and destroying the Technodrome. Having Krang completely outsmarted as he watches in horror as he watches his Technodrome being destroyed as Leo taunts him.

With his plans of conquering earth ruined for good, Krang One loses his composure and begins mercilessly beating on Leo as means of venting his frustration, foolishly proclaiming Leo hasn’t won. Leo, however, has resigned himself to his fate as a punching bag, even smiling knowing that his family is safe back on Earth, which further enrages Krang. Out of desperation, Mikey tries to use his mystic powers to generate a rip in time/space, as he did in the future to send Casey back, and with Raph and Don taking the brunt of the power, he manages to create one without crumbling to dust. Noticing this, Krang tries to escape with Leo, but Donnie slows him down using his mystic powers, allowing the three turtles to rescue Leo and close the portal before Krang One can make it through. Trapped in the dimension alone with zero means of escape, Krang One screams in rage and agony over his well-deserved defeat.

What happened to Krang One next is unknown, but it can be safely assumed that he will spend the rest of his life trapped in the Prison Dimension with no company this time, fated to die just like the rest of his species and never have any tech to get back or harm anyone ever again.

Trivia[]

  • Just like Krang Two, Krang One speaks with a slight English accent.
  • Krang One is the only Krang individual in the Rise franchise to appear most different from other Krang iterations, being the largest of his siblings and even purple in color.
  • Krang One can be seen as the dark counterpart to Leonardo:
    • Both are arrogant and show no regrets for what they've done, particularly Leonardo for his cocky attitude towards his big brother, Raphael and doesn't even acknowledging his actions and not listening to his team. However despite that, he cares deeply about his family and while he does eventually realize his mistakes and learn to accept responsibility. Krang on the other hand, doesn't acknowledge any of his actions and doesn't seen to care about his siblings and neither anyone but himself. If Leo kept being arrogant and haven't paying attention to his family, he would end up like Krang.
