This hotel is very elegant, and grand in style.
We were upgraded to a Lifestyle Room at the Hotel Metropole, and we were really happy with it. The room was modern, high tech, and recently remodeled. It featured a full-length mirror with a built-in flat screen TV, and a ipad beside the bed controlling all the lights in the room. Our room was at the front of the hotel, so our view was of the lovely lake. We had blinds that you could get to come down automatically at night to keep the room dark and also help with street noise. It was not too noisy at all.
The bathroom was really a part of the bedroom, but you could pull a drape across for privacy while bathing.
Service was excellent by bellmen, concierge, and receptionists.
We made use of the fitness center and thought it was very nice.
The location is very convenient to the main shopping district and to the Old Town, all within easy walking distance. We are glad that we chose this hotel!

I stayed here over the weekend as it’s prime location for shopping in Geneva. As it was my first stay I was upgraded which I was pleased about. We had a lovely lake view room with brightly coloured decorated wall. I loved that they had a full length mirror and the bathroom also was fresh and modern. The hotel staff were very helpful, especially at check in- asking if we needed any dinner reservations. Only complaint would be that parking was 25 CHF a day and could be complimentary considering I was a hotel guest. Excellent hotel to stay in Geneva.

We had long planned a weekend away to celebrate my husband's birthday. We squeaked away to Geneva to stay at the Metropole just as the Coronavirus restrictions were beginning to be laid down. The hotel staff were kind, helpful and informative at a worrying time . They kindly rustled up a birthday cake as a surprise and despite the fact that it's hard to run facilities - everything was spotless and service was flawless. I can't recommend this hotel enough

My stay in this hotel turned out to be one of the most disappointing I have been unfortunate enough to experience.

On previous trips to Geneva, I had seen this hotel from the outside and been impressed by its majestic presence. The images on the web site seem to confirm this view. The entrance to the hotel, the staircases, the corridor leading to the rooms are all decorated in an elegant style, promising comfort and luxury. However, this impression is sadly shattered on entering the bedroom.

Whereas the style of the hotel’s public areas is almost stately, our bedroom seems to have been inspired by Ikea’s Formica era: flat, rectangular furniture. Because the room is so small and the layout of the furniture so badly planned that the designer has found no room to fit in a chest-of-drawers, so that is almost impossible for a couple to unpack all of their items. In addition, how can the hotel justify describing rooms as suitable for two guests and then only providing a single easy chair?

This disappointment is reinforced by the bathroom. Once again, no drawers are provided for storing items but, and which is much more serious, the bathroom is so compact that there is no room for a standalone shower. If you want to use the shower, you will have to clamber over the side of the bath and snuggle up to the taps in order to control the equipment.

This issue with the shower in the bath highlights another major problem with this hotel: the complete lack of provision for people with any form of disability. Every one of the majestic entrances to the hotel is on a lower level than the hotel’s interior. The only way of getting into the hotel that does not require climbing a number of steps is to go into the hotel’s restaurant and find a member of staff who can accompany you up in the service lift. I did not ask what provisions are available if the restaurant is very busy or when it is closed.

In short, both the external aspect and the five stars attributed to this hotel set expectations that are not satisfied in reality.

On the plus side, however, the staff are charming and very helpful but that does not make up for seriously substandard rooms.

Dear Madame, Dear Sir, We would like to thank you for taking the time to express your opinion about your recent stay at the Hotel Metropole Geneva. The experience you describe is definitely not the service we aim to provide to our valued guests, and it is a real disappointment to learn that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. We are in continuous search of progress regarding our access and layouts and will consequently start a complete renovation of the property from January 2023. We are nevertheless glad to learn that you enjoyed the profesionalism of our team members. Please do not hesitate to contact us back should you wish to share more details about your experience. With renewed apologies, Hélène Lang-Lauper Directrice Générale

Wow this place is next level bad. The rooms are tiny. The food is terrible. The cleanliness is shocking. The aircon is never at the right temperature and the internet well forget that if you are relying on wifi. And yes you pay top dollar for everything- from the room rates, to transfers and even the laundry service costs more than the items. It was so bad I switched hotels mid stay in Geneva.

We stayed here for 3 nights in February for our Wedding Anniversary. Not only was our room ready early (we did request early check-in but didn't expect to have our room ready at 10.30am!) and were automatically given an upgrade to a Lifestyle Room overlooking the Lake. Very modern with every convenience you could wish for and immaculately clean. iPad to control the lighting/blinds etc/decent sized good quality toilettries - everything you could want. The staff were extremely welcoming and professional and we could not fault them. The Concierge were very informative and helped us on a few occasions. Did not have breakfast in the hotel as we wanted to sample some of the little local places (or which there are many). A perfect location for our first visit, which enabled us to easily walk into the old town, take the ferry across the lake etc. If we ever come back to Geneva, we would definitely stay here. THANK YOU.

Stayed here for the first leg of a family vacation. Location and hotel service were great. Breakfast was traditional European spread with all the meats, cheeses, veggies, eggs etc. Very good. The only adjustment that my children, who were sharing a room, had to make was pulling the curtain closed to separate the bathing area from the sleeping area. I would recommend this hotel.

Exquisite bed and very appreciated pillow menu. Not all the rooms have bath tubs, you shoud specify if you prefer it to the shower. In times of Covid, breakfast is served in the room. Polite and friendly staff, perfect location. There's no parking in the hotel, but near from it and the valet can take care of it.

I have stayed here on 4 occasions now and I must say that almost everything about this hotel is top notch, the location, service, food, bar, rooms, beds, bathrooms.

The hotel is as beautiful and charming in winter as it is in summer and the rooftop bar is highly recommended in the summertime as it gives you a stunning view of the lake and of half or Geneva.

The Metropole is worth every penny and I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Geneva.

The only thing I would actually want to change is for the bar to stay open another hour in the evenings in order to enjoy the fantastic drinks served!

I’m extremely disappointed with this 5 star hotel. We decided to stay here due to its location however the hotel did not live up to it.

We booked a suite with 2 rooms, we were really disgusted cuz of the strange smell that was there. It was only the next day when opening the curtain did we stumble upon upon a used smelly sock right next to the curtains. This is unhygienic and unacceptable especially due to the fact we are living at a time of an existing pandemic.

This explained the strange odour and the fact why we were all sneezing constantly.

Also the lights and the TV in the suite and one of the rooms are not functioning at all.

Additionally during the breakfast there was a serious cross contamination issue with the buffet all the cutlery used was double dipped in all different types of food, again I repeat we are living in an era of a pandemic thus this unacceptable.

Dear Mrs Almarri, We thank you for your comment, which of course caught my attention. The condition of the room and the breakfast were certainly not up to our standards, and I apologize for the disappointment this has caused. The Food and Beverage Manager, the Housekeeping Director and I are very grateful to you for taking the trouble to bring this to our attention. Please be assured that the necessary steps have already been taken to ensure that this does not happen again. We are constantly striving to meet the needs of our customers while respecting the health regulations in Switzerland. In the hope that you will give us the chance to welcome you again in better conditions, I send you, dear Madam, my most sincere greetings Yours sincerely, Hélène Lang-Lauper General Manager
