Viral photos of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling continue to break the internet for them dressed suspiciously around L.A. First wearing 80's jazzercise neon outfits with roller skates, and later in cowgirl and cowboy getups to boot.
These incidences are not isolated, or random, the two have been spotted filming Greta Gerwig's newest film: The Barbie Movie.
With Academy-Award nominated director Greta Gerwig behind the camera, and Academy-Award winning actress Margot Robbie in front of it, anything is possible. Robbie will also produce the film, taking on a big role in the creative direction along with Gerwing.
While with each photo release, fans begin to plot and suspect aspects of the film, Robbie has said in several interviews that whatever people are thinking will happen in the plot, is bound to take a twist.
Greta Gerwing & Live-Action
Greta Gerwig is already a Hollywood veteran, both behind and in front of the camera. Her films Lady Bird and Little Women have reached particularly high levels of critical acclaim and Academy Recognition. Although the film has been being pushed around Hollywood since 2014, with several actors, scripts and directors up for debate, it wasn't until 2021 when Gerwig was confirmed to direct.
This is the first time that Barbie is being portrayed in live-action, similar to the reprisal of Disney's Beauty & The Beast or Aladdin. That means real people, no cartoons.
With Barbie in Gerwig's hands, the film is certain to surprise fans and viewers, especially considering the historical criticism around Barbie and the brand.
Barbie is a cultural icon, from Mattel Inc, but she comes with a lot of skepticism about unrealistic body image and idealizing eurocentric beauty. Robbie has said in an interview that this film aims to attack that baggage in positive ways, and not ignore it.
Barbie & Ken Played By Margot Robbie And Ryan Gosling
Robbie and Gosling are internet favorites as faces for the brand and movie, the viral pictures are too good when it comes to resemblances.
Robbie was actually not the first actress to be cast as Barbie, names were going around for years such as Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway. Although, after seval script re-writes, Robbie was officially cast back in 2019 and came on as a producer through her producing company LuckyChap.
Gosling initially passed up the role but came back to it later on when his schedule cleared up. Gosling and Robbie aren't the only A-list actors in this star-studded cast.

As Barbie takes place in Barbieland, there are hundreds of Kens and Barbies. To name a few the cast will include Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Micheal Cera, Will Ferrel, and Simu Liu.

While everyone has their own nostalgia when it comes to Barbie, but aside from being a Toy, she is a fashion icon and that is sure to be reflected in the film. From the photos that have been released, you can see Robbie in flared pink cowgirl jeans with a matching vest, bandana and hat. Later she was seen rocking biker shorts under a bodysuit with matching neon accessories for the jazzercise Barbie look.
Not to mention the first image released of Robbie as Barbie in her pink convertible with a blue halter top, a headscarf and a matching beaded bracelet. After the release of the film in July 2023, Barbie is sure to be one of the most popular Halloween consumers.
It Is Filming In L.A. & England
The viral photos that started the hype post the initiated post of Robbie in the pink convertible were released by folks passing by in Venice beach and snapping photos of Robbie and Gosling rollerblading through the beach, along with America Ferrera and Will Ferrel.
Later they were spotted in their cowgirl and cowboy getups, meaning that you can expect all of the versions of Barbie in her adventures.
While these scenes have been shot in L.A., the film is mostly being created in the Warner Bros. Studios in London. As the studios are closed, fans will have to wait till the next sitting of the film shooting on location, or for an official image to be released.
There is a lot of anticipation for the trailer, but as the film is still being filmed fans have a lot of waiting to do. Don't forget to mark your calendars for July 2023, when the film will officially be released and is sure to be a big summer hit.
