Very nice trails around its walls, providing great views. - SydneyPerlaSydney553 contributionsWe visited Greiz several times and we really enjoyed not only the beautiful location in a valley but also the architecture mix. Neo Classicism is to be found around the Lower Palace (Unteres Schloss) and the neighbouring school and Town Church "St Mary", Art Noveau/Art Deco buildings are to see along Thomasstr. and the market square (Town Hall is Neo Classicism again as much as we know) and Baroque and Romanesque in parts of the Upper Palace (Oberes Schloss). Do not forget to have a walk into Newtown (Neustadt) as it is a"Gründerzeit" quarter, small but beautiful with many restored buildings.
There is also the possibility to book a guided tour (sometimes themed tours) through Greiz. The Tourist Information can help you with that.
We clicked on 1-2 hrs to visit, but that doesnt include visits to Lower and Upper Palace as well as Sommerpalais and/or Greizer Park. There is plenty to discover: a huge collection of trees from all over the world, a lake with many fish and birds (mainly ducks and swans), the Sommerpalais Palace and the Cafe Küchenhaus are to be found there, too, and a floral clock.
We really enjoyed a walk through the vast greenery. We'd say it is one of the top sights in Greiz. The palace of the former princes of Reuss is situated in the lush green English-like Greizer Park and it is already from outside quite impressive. Inside there is a vast book and copperplate collection as well as a collection of historical and modern satirical cartoons (the biggest collection of its kind in Germany!). When we walked through the Beletage and looked at the stucco, textile wall covers and furniture we really felt what it was like to live here.
The entry fee of 4 EUR/person is more than okay. When you purchase the Museumskarte you can visit all 3 palaces.
Have a walk through Greizer Park, an English landscape park with a huge collection of plants and trees. It is simply beautiful. There is a floral clock, a lake, flowers, birds and much more. During the summer months the little cafe next to the palace is open. We had a coffee and a cake there and enjoyed the view. Do not miss the so called Luftbrücke (Aeral Bridge) that got its name as it was always taken down in autumn and re-erected in spring. It was as invisible as air to the locals in wintertime :)

The one of the top is more of a fortress, This one is for living, so it is warmer, cozier. Has many rooms open for the visitors. The receiption people were very welcoming, provided me with instructions on how to see this place and an audioguide. - SydneyPerlaSydney553 contributionsWe visited Weisses Kreuz in winter. It was a lovely stroll uphill. At some points it is very steep and you need to be careful. But the climb is all worth it: the view across the Park Lake, the park itself, the Oberes Schloss Palace and the town is simply breathtaking.
It is a bit hard to find: you need to walk either through the park (rear exit) and follow the signs or you ask at the Tourist Information Greiz (Unteres Schloss). The walk up there is nice: in spring and summer through a green forest, in autumn the trees turn orange, red and yellow (beautiful scenery!) and in winter you have a fantastic view across the landscape.
The tower itself is just a red brick building, pretty cute but you cannot go inside. The major attraction is rather the surrounding forest and the lookout.
