Believe it or not, sometimes being from a famous family can make things a bit harder.
In 1975, the daughter of an extremely popular singer from the 1950s was turned down by every record company she approached–until Capitol Records took a chance that paid off for everyone.
“This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” by Natalie Cole went straight to #1 on Billboard’s Rhythm & Blues chart…and #6 on the Hot 100.
It also earned TWO Grammy Awards: One for “Best New Artist” and the other for “Best R&B Performance/Female,” ending a long stretch of wins by the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.
Her dad, Nat King Cole, had passed away a decade before his daughter made it big…but it’s a safe bet he would have been mighty proud!
This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” an impressive debut by Natalie Cole, and a Great Song of 1975!
