"Stomach Mumps" opens with newlywed husband Keith serenading wife Thelma with his impression of Jerry Lewis, while Florida prepares to tackle another day in the laundry. Willona has become agitated over one of Penny's friends becoming pregnant at age 13, worried over her daughter growing up too fast. Florida tries to explain how parents are ultimately responsible for teaching their children all the good things about sex, rather than having them learning all the wrong things in the streets. When Penny mentions her friend, Willona describes the condition as 'stomach mumps,' much to Florida's dismay. Florida rips into her longtime friend as Mother Goose: "little lady who lives in a shoe, got one child and don't know what to do!" Only after Penny is nearly molested in the hallway does Willona come to her senses and take her daughter home for a much needed conversation.
