Driving back from Oxford trying to avoid the main road, happened across Godstow Abbey just by the Thames by accident.
Small ruin to the north of Oxford, though not much to see really.
Quaint quiet spot.

A really interesting place to walk around, although I would say it's only worth a stop if you're in the local area.

I was driving back from Oxford trying to avoid the main road when I happened Godstow Abbey by accident. It is a very pleasant medieval ruin with a lot of interesting history, although I was a little dismayed to find a dogman hiding in the remains of the chapel. My wife Edith threw a rock at it and it ran away however so I do not believe it is there anymore.

The surroundings next the the river and lock are rather pretty. Do visit the Trout for lunch!

Rosamund de Clifford was the love of the life of King Henry II and she was buried here. King Henry made Godstow Abbey a shrine to this great beauty with candles lit around her tomb all the time.

The history of the Abbey makes it worth a look, not a lot of it left. The surroundings next to the river and lock are pretty.

Close to Godstow Lock on the banks of the River Thames are the remains of Godstow Abbey. The ruins are located by a public footpath. For ruins they are in good condition, with most of the walls remaining, no roofs survive. A pleasant stop if walking along the River Thames.
