Pioneer Softball Splits with D&E in MEC Southern Division Play

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville State Softball team bounced back from yesterday's sweep versus WVWC with a split today against Davis & Elkins, winning game one 6-0 but falling 7-3 in the second game.  

Game One – GSU 6 | D&E 0 
The Pioneers got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when Makenna Negley was able to bring Madison Yoak home on a sac fly. Later in the inning, Kylee Goodman was able to clear the bases with a 3-run triple, making it 4-0. Holly Brehm continued her dominant performance for the following innings as Glenville added onto their lead in the 5th (one run) and the 6th (one run). Brehm then sat the Senator lineup down in order in the 7th, securing the 6-0 win for GSU. 

Box Score 
Three Pioneers recorded two hits while Kylee Goodman put up 3 RBI. Makenna Negley and Delaney Warnick finished with 1 RBI each. Holly Brehm pitched a complete game, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits and walking two. 

Trinity Fleming and Ashlyn Zapach both had a hit for the Senators. Vanessa Hunt was handed the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on eight hits and four walks. 

Game Two – GSU 3 | D&E 7 
Davis & Elkins got out to a hot start, plating a run in the first inning follwed up with five runs in the 2nd inning, making it a 6-0 game early. The Pioneers began to chip away at the defcit in the 4th when Emily Nolan hit a sac fly. D&E added onto their advantage in the top of the 7th before Glenville got their final at bats. GSU did score two runs in the bottom half of the 7th, however the game would be ended on a strikeout as the Senators won 7-3. 

Box Score 
Kylee Goodman and Makenna Negley had two hits each with Negley and Emily Nolan finishing with an RBI. Holly Brehm took the loss after just 1.1 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks. 

The Senators had four players have two or more hits, led by Jules Gutierrez who had three. Gutierrez and Lilly Saucedo both finished with an RBI in the win. Sammie Jarvis earned her ninth victory of the season, going the full seven innings and giving up three (two earned) on four hits and three walks. She also struck out eight.

Glenville State will travel south for a matchup with Charleston on Friday, starting at 1 p.m.
