A marvellous birthday celebration at Girton college. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful; the organisation flawless and the celebratory drinks and dinner were very special. The food in particular was of a high calibre. While the accommodation was mostly of the type you would expect in a college, it was modern, clean and well thought out with all the necessary facilities. The college social hub was a really convenient place to meet up for coffee, snacks and drinks. Overall a great experience in an oasis away from the tourist hubbub of central Cambridge

I travlled there last year with my son who had applied to read Economics there as they have an excellent department and DOS. After spending a few days in cambridge centre it was a welcome relief to get out of the hussle and bussle of the city centre into beautiful grounds and architiecture. It has an amazing formal hall and chapel and the accomadation was very modern and clean. The porters were welcoming and friendly and Im so glad that my son will be studying there rather than some of the smaller colleges in town

I write my review from the context that my wife and I are serious and semi professional travelers in photography and my wife a writer. Do not be fooled like the rest of the tourist into thinking everything is in downtown Cambridge or you have to stay downtown. My wife and I visited Cambridge for 10 days and found that the best things to see and enjoy where just out side the city. Places like Grandchester and Girton which are outside the traffic are far better places to to enjoy. Once we found Girton we canceled punting and lost the desire to go back to the city. The college allowed us to eat in their great hall and walk the grounds freely at Girton College. Far less stuffy people and atmosphere than down town. Their is an old church, wonderful town activities, warm people, and a fresh food market that rivals most we have experienced. Honestly Girton is the best place in Cambridge and we would love to live here. Lucky students who are accepted to Girton. It may not be the most famous of colleges but by far the most beautiful.

I lived in Girton College for two years from '00-'02, and loved it. Be advised that there's a rumor in Cambridge that more people from Cambridge have been to India than have been to Girton! It is the college furthest from the city center, and students of the college rely heavily upon their bikes to make the 1.5 mile journey to town. It's easy enough to take a bus from the town to Girton, probably takes around 5 minutes, and it's worth the trip-- Girton is a lovely college with a beautiful library, nice grounds, and very beautiful red brick Victorian architecture. If you have the chance to go in term time, visit Girton's college pub on a Friday night-- Girton's "formal hall" is one of the best in Cambridge!

Girton is a very beautiful place, and probably one of Cambridge most attractive colleges. The atmosphere as well as its architecture is amazing and I love the time I spent there, every single moment was a pure plesure. Also the garden that surrounds the building is huge and terrific and there are plenty of areas to do sports or just take a walk in the enormous park! Not a day goes by in my life, without thinking of Girton! Honestly! Not only the great people but also its warm atmosphere makes Girton college to a very special place in my heart.
It's a big college and everyday, there are something new to discouver in the building! It's not situated in the midle of Cambridge, but that's not something bad, instead everyone could get together and be social to one another, Inside the college. The dining room especially makes me think of Harry Potter, imidietly!! Sorry for my english, I am from Sweden.

Am writing this as a parent of a student. I have visited Girton twice a year for the last 3 years dropping off /collecting my son. I think this place is fantastic. It is further from town than any of the other colleges. I love the Emily Davies connection and the fact that they have a Mistress. There are lovely grounds that make you feel like you're on a country estate despite being so near the city. Try to spot a black squirrel. Architecturally pleasing with its red brick, lots of brass and arches and the tower. Enjoyed a chapel service recently before graduation with fabulous organist, singing and interesting, humorous sermon. Have eaten in the hall several times for lunch and always been pleased with the food. Lovely Girton ,my son will miss you (as will I). If you get the chance to visit Girton, do take it!

An exquisite experience to view some of the country's most renowned portrait artists in a gallery that is like a private viewing.

Exhibition is free. Beautifully set out and far from the tourist crowds of central Cambridge. A gem of find. Well worth a visit if you love art.

Quite a long walk from the centre of Cambridge but worth the trek.

There are regular buses from Cambridge city centre to the main College site. Stagecoach numbers Citi 5 and Citi 6 and Whippet Numbers 1A and 5 run from Cambridge bus station (Drummer Street) and Emmanuel Street to Girton Corner.

I didn't go there. My son went there because it has a good Geography department. Nobody goes to Girton to see Girton college. That's because Cambridge centre is packed with awesomeness!

But Girton college is a beauty! It's out to the north and as far as you can go before you get into trunk roads.

It's a collection of Victorian red brick buildings sympathetically mixed with modern structures.

It has an orchard, some well crafted gardens and excellent sports grounds.

It has a quiet measured feel about it and it feels bucolic compared with the cramped courts of its antique neighbours.

Whether your visiting a friend or relative studying- or you are done with the high-intensity academic tourism of town- Girton will make your visit worthwhile

Amazing college outside of Cambridge just a bus ride away using the 5 or 6. Lovely grounds with wildlife and little walkways. Amazing restaurant that is very cheap for students and offers a wide range of choices. It is also the only Cambridge college to feature an indoor swimming pool!
