Geraldine McEwan - Agatha Christie (UK)

Geraldine McEwan

Overview

Geraldine McEwan played Miss Marple in ITV’s adaptations from 2004-2009. She filmed 12 episodes before announcing her retirement in 2008.

Much-acclaimed for her acting work, McEwan won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress for 1990s series Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit. She received five Olivier Award nominations for her stage performances, as well as winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Actress, for The Rivals in 1983 and The Way of the World in 1995. In 2005 she was nominated for a Satellite Award for her role as Miss Marple in the first series.

I do enjoy playing very original and slightly eccentric characters. It is very amusing that Agatha Christie should have created this older woman who lives a very conventional life in a little country village and yet spends all her time solving violent crimes.
