Biography

Geoffrey was the son of Peter Shakerley and his wife, Elizabeth Mainwaringe.^[1] Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir Randell Mainwaringe of Pevor, Knight.^[1]

He had three sisters:

1. Elinor Shakerley, who was married to Thomas Mynshull of Erdeswyke, gent;^[1]
2. Dorothie Shakerley, who was married to Adam Leycester of Tabley, esq;^[1] and
3. Margaret Shakerley, unmarried in 1601.^[1]

After the death of his father, his mother married Christopher Holford, esq, and Geoffrey gained a half-sister, Mary who was married to Sir Hugh Cholmundley, Knight.^[1]

He was married to Jane Bestone.^[1] Geff Shakerly and Jone Beeston married on 16 March, 1563, at Bunbury St Boniface, Cheshire.^[2] Jane was the eldest daughter of Sir George Bestone, Knight.^[1]

Geoffrey and Jane had children:

1. Hugh Shakerley, son and heir, married Margaret, daughter of Thomas Bunbury of Stanney;^[1] and when Hugh's paternal grandmother died in 1601, Hugh and Margaret had:
   1. Geoffrey Shakerley, died young before 15 May, 1601;^[1] and
   2. Peter, heir apparent in 1601.^[1]

Geoffrey Shakerley signed the Funeral Certificate for his mother, Mrs Elizabeth Holford, widow, who died on 15 May, 1601.^[1]
