Gaston Doumergue (1 August 1863 – 18 June 1937) was President of France from 13 June 1924 to 13 June 1931 (succeeding Alexandre Millerand and preceding Paul Doumer) and Prime Minister of France from 9 December 1913 to 9 June 1914 (succeeding Louis Barthou and preceding Alexandre Ribot) and from 9 February to 8 November 1934 (succeeding Edouard Daladier and preceding Pierre-Etienne Falndin).
Biography[]
Gaston Doumergue was born in Aigues-Vives, France in 1863 to a Protestant family. He served in the Chamber of Deputeis from 1893 to 1910 as a member of the Radical Party of France, and he became a Senator in 1910 and then Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary in 1913-1914. In 1924, he was the first Protestant to become President of France, and he came back from retirement in 1934 to head a government of national union as Prime Minister in orrder to respond to the Stavisky scandal.
