Could Channing Tatum finally be playing Gambit? Hugh Jackman teases his potential role in Deadpool and Wolverine.

While rumors have been swirling about Channing Tatum appearing as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine for years, there hasn’t been any concrete proof. However, it seems Hugh Jackman may have finally tipped his hand. After Tatum commented “Let’s go daddy” on one of Jackman’s recent posts, the Wolverine actor teased that Tatum may “be” someone using text matching Gambit’s iconic purple color.

It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for Channing Tatum to appear as Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine. The film seems set on being one of the biggest pieces of fan service of all time, bringing back everyone’s favorite characters and bringing dream casting decisions to life. Given Tatum’s Gambit is one of the most infamous pieces of cancelled media from the Fox era, it only makes chance to give him the time to shine.

The Tragic History Of Channing Tatum’s Gambit

Many fans wouldn’t peg Channing Tatum as a good casting choice for Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine. However, the role has been a passion project for Tatum for over a decade, mirroring Ryan Reynolds’ own journey to get the first Deadpool movie made.

Channing Tatum had been in talks to play Gambit as early as 2006, though rewrites and scheduling conflicts prevented him from appearing in any other mainline X-Men film. Despite this, Tatum remained attached to the role emotionally, expressing his desire to get a spin-off film made.

Planning for a Gambit film began back in 2014 with Channing Tatum attached. It was even announced to be coming out in 2016. However, following a litany of creative conflicts and delays, the project was eventually scrapped in 2019 following Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox.

Even though fans may never see Channing Tatum star in his own Gambit film, Deadpool and Wolverine may serve as a send-off to his two decade long journey to try to bring the character to the big screeen.

Deadpool and Wolverine is currently expected to be released on July 26, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
