Gallatin School of Individualized Study

Develop your own individualized and interdisciplinary area of study at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Working closely with a team of faculty advisers, you can design a custom graduate program—whether you want to combine the geography of gender and architectural history or digital technology and performance—that brings together courses from across NYU’s graduate and professional schools and colleges to merge your interests into a cohesive intellectual and professional experience.

XE: Experimental Humanities and Social Engagement

XE offers students the opportunity integrate theory and practice, art and activism, the local and the international, the analogue and the digital, the creative and the critical. We welcome students whose work might not neatly fit within conventional disciplinary boundaries. Our course of study is uniquely flexible in allowing students to take up to half their classes across other departments at NYU and, by so doing, design a curriculum that synthesizes their intellectual, creative, and professional interests.
