- smjreaderChicago, IL150 contributionsMuseum is small and open limited hours but what makes it worthwhile are the people who work there who provide the tours of the railroad cars and tell the stories and history of railroad travel and the men and women who worked on the trains. We had an excellent guide who took us on the train cars and explained not only the mechanics of the train and equipment but personal stories and his own family history of what it was like to work on them. Inside a woman was telling stories about Abraham Lincoln and other people related to artifacts too. There were many people working because of the annual Railroad Days event we were attending. I would recommend this as a stop to make for train fans during this event.Written June 28, 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dan RSterling, IL350 contributionsWe stooped by the site of the Lincoln-Douglas debate and was pleasantly surprised to be able to walk into Old main and see the history on the main floor.Written November 20, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robert WPark Ridge, IL3,086 contributionsThis historic building on Main Street (at Seminary Street) has the first two floor filled with antiques. It is generally a fairly neat, tidy place as an antique store. Some parts have narrow aisles, but one can get around easily. There are usually several people around that you can ask for help. (Don't come at ten minutes before closing. Many workers will have already gone home and the few left need to leave to go back to their families. This is a big place and you will need an hour or two if you want to view all the antiques.)
Most of the third floor is filled with History of Galesburg exhibits. Sadly, many exhibits are about the big businesses that no longer are in Galesburg.Written February 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is also a nice display of Reagan artifacts from when he and Nancy lived in Galesburg, a nice Carl Sandburg Display, a nice Mother Beiderbyck Display and many pamphlets about Galesburg attractions.Written August 8, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 15barneYLemont, IL5 contributionsI live in the Chicago suburbs but visit Galesburg regularly. I do a lot of genealogy research and I’ve found more books and microfiche at the Galesburg Public Library to help me find my family tree than most in Chicago! Not just Central Illinois but all 50 states (some better than others.) A knowledgeable, polite staff as well!Written August 23, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- biztravelerChicagoChicago534 contributionsA meandering store with numerous rooms packed to the gills with lots of early 20th century furniture and accoutrements. Lots of cabinets and dressers. Amiable and knowledgeable owner on site. Upstairs area has a limited array of architectural salvage, including many doors, grates, smaller cast iron decorative pieces, trim pieces and salvaged wood. Worth the stop if you're in town.Written July 2, 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
