I don’t normally watch highlight reels for 40yr old soccer tournaments but when I said I was going to watch every Sean Connery movie I meant every Sean Connery movie.
I'll be honest; I'm not the biggest football fan. But this jolly summary of the Espania '82 World Cup was actually quite enjoyable. Probably helped by the sardonic narration from (randomly!) Sean Connery. His little quips are so dry. The game footage is mostly taken from pitch level which gives it a fresh perspective. And the short cutaway segments showing fans (mostly lingering shots on pretty ladies) is delightfully naff and dated.

But a film that, strangely enough, fails to tell the story of the 1982 World Cup in a compelling way. You don’t even see the goals from good angles!
I've long held the belief that most sports administrators don't much care for the mucky, sweaty, sweary business of the sport itself, preferring its trappings to its spectacle. Nowhere is that suspicion more strongly evidenced than in the grim official films so many sporting events spawn. And this one's a doozy.
Apart from the epic France vs West Germany semi-final and the damp squib of Italy's subsequent overpowering of the German players still exhausted by it, there's no hand-hold available to any viewer trying to get a grip on the matches or the tournament itself.
