America’s forty-third president, George W. Bush, presided over eight of the most dramatic years in recent history, from the 9/11 attacks early in his administration to the worldwide economic crisis of 2008. By his side, recording every event from the momentous to the intimate, was his personal White House photographer, Eric Draper. From a collection of nearly one million photographs, Draper has selected more than one hundred images of President Bush that portray both the public figure and the private man.
Front Row Seat presents a compelling, behind-the-scenes view of the presidency of George W. Bush. Through Draper’s lens, we follow Bush through moments of crisis that called for strong leadership, such as 9/11; emotional meetings with troops in war zones, wounded soldiers at home, and Katrina survivors; and happy, relaxed times with his wife Laura, daughters Barbara and Jenna, and parents President George H. W. and Barbara Bush. We also see Bush at work within his inner circle of trusted advisors, including Vice President Richard Cheney, National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
Capturing moments that reveal the essence of the man, Front Row Seat is an irreplaceable portrait of George W. Bush.

I am so impressed with the depth of emotion in the pictures, you can feel the relationships, feel the pressure and stress, feel the joy and laughter, it was truly an amazing book of historical photos. Equally great were the stories he told from the point of view of someone whose goal was to be "invisible"or "like furniture" in order to get natural pictures - clearly to PResident Bush and his family, this White House Photographer was no piece of furniture, you can tell by the stories and the tone that when he became visible, he was a very close part of the professional, personal, and family circles during the almost decade they shared in history.
I know it is probably impossible, but I sure would love to have PART 2 AND PART 3, I really cannot express how good it was. I do not spend money on ME lightly, on what I call Luxury or frivolous items. I make purchases these days for very specific reasons and a leisure book at this price doesn't come anywhere near anything I would ever do in recent years. He was so compelling in his interview and now that I have the book, I can say I would buy it again, buy it for gifts, and most certainly would buy a volume 2 and 3, considering how many photos he must have taken, whether serious, fun, or the incredibly historic moments occurring in my adult life. Everyone involved with this project from the amazing photographer and his staff to the President and his staff and family, to those involved with publishing the book, really, everyone should be so incredibly proud.
I gave it 5 stars for all of the above reasons - however, it almost got 4...Why 4 stars? The packaging sealing the book - which may have been Amazons fault, I don't know - but it was so tight that it make permanent warped ripples across the entire paper cover. For the price of the book this is APPALLING, HEARTBREAKING, FRUSTRATING, HORRIFIC and so much more. The only other possibility is that it got water damaged in storage, only on the paper cover. Whichever it is I am still angry about it. But the book is too good, surprisingly good, to dock a star based on Amazon's packaging or shipping. It is the only thing that would make me hesitant to buy them for gifts, and I cannot go to a bookstore etc. so I am stuck with the internet only.
I may try to return it because it arrived damaged but the main problem is I am homebound due to illness and do not have a printer or access to a printer, therefore I have no possible way of returning it "amazon's way" and as wonderful as customer service is at Amazon, returns are almost impossible under my circumstances. Perhaps they will figure a way to get me a label, but they haven't in the past where I have been stuck with items that were damaged.
I really cannot thank you all enough, every single person involved with this project, it brought me such joy and emotion and respect for everyone involved.
* Variety of images - formal, informal
* Access to otherwise unseen events in a coherent chronology
* Makes a great gift - for others and yourself!
Minus:
* Would have liked to see this produced in the USA. Willing to pay higher for an in-country production.
* While paper is of archival quality, it has a flat and dull finish. This detracts from the images. If given a choice between archival quality and a heavier and shinier paper, I'd go with the latter (although am not sure it's an "either/or")
* Recommend adding photo captions to each image. I found myself toggling between the full-size images and the thumbnails at the back (which provide who, when, where, etc.)
