The Freedom Trail Hike and Badge/Patch Program is sponsored by The Spirit of Adventure Council, in conjunction with the Boston Chamber of Commerce.
Visiting or local groups are welcome and encouraged to stay at New England Base Camp in Milton while they participate in The Freedom Trail Hike.
Participation in the Freedom Trail hike is intended to help Cub Scouts, older Scouts, Venturers and Explorers, as well as parents and Unit Leaders become more aware of the historic significance of Boston, Massachusetts and its role in American heritage.
About the Trail
The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile hike through two and a half centuries of America's past in downtown Boston. It begins at the Boston Commons Information Center on Tremont St. near the Park Street MBTA station which can be reached using the MBTA Red and Green lines. The trail ends at the U.S.S. Constitution in Charlestown.
This walking tour permits visitors to discover more than sixteen historical sites. The trail is marked by a red line painted on the sidewalk that will lead you from site to site.
Note: You are not required to pay admission at sites to earn the trail awards. Also, on-street parking is hard to find in downtown Boston and parking lot prices can be expensive. We suggest using the MBTA as an alternative to driving into Boston.
Transportation
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Red Line is the best option for transporting you to the beginning of the freedom trail: Park at the Quincy Adams station ($7 for the day) and get off at the Park St Station in Boston. A Charlie Card (MBTA pass) is $2.75 per ride per person. Check schedules and maps here.
Patches and Medals
Freedom Trail Patches and Medals can be purchased at the New England Base Camp Scout Shop. You are also able to pre-order them in advance by calling the Scout Shop. As the Shop closes at 4pm on Saturday, they can be set aside for you for when you arrive back at camp. You also have the option to have them shipped to you afterwards.

Lodging
