Queen Mary and King Frederik have been hit with complaints after succeeding the throne in Denmark.

The King and Queen of Denmark travelled abroad for an Easter holiday with their four children last week, however, the move has caused a stir amongst the Danish public.

A royal commentator has spoken exclusively to GB News about the King and Queen’s schedule since succeeding the throne in January.

Julia Melchior said: “The Danish media have reported that many people are displeased that the Royal Family is on holiday for the second time since the succession.

“It is being observed meticulously that the royal diary hasn’t shown many activities since the succession.

“Also, since the succession to the throne, the Royal Family has gone on holiday twice.”

The location of the Royal Family’s holiday was kept under wraps; the only information shared was that they travelled outside of Denmark.

However, a Palace spokesperson told the Danish publication Her&Nu that Queen Margrethe, 83, had to act as head of state in Frederik’s absence.

Melchior, who is filming a documentary about the Royal Family in Denmark, spoke up for the family saying that “the King explained in his book 'Kongeord' that time-outs are important to him and his family.”

She said: “It’s still early because there haven’t been many opportunities for them to present themselves as King and Queen.

“Of course, a large part of the King and Queen's work takes place behind closed walls. So, the fact that they do not work in public does not mean that they do not work at all.”

She said it was clear, however, that “the Danes want to see their new King and Queen.”

Melchior added: “And this is what I expect will happen in the near future: King Frederik and Queen Mary will be much more present.”

King Frederik and Queen Mary are set for their first foreign state tour as Danish monarchs this summer.

The royal palace in Copenhagen confirmed that the King and Queen would be travelling to Sweden at the beginning of May to kick off a major tour around the Northern region.

Later in the summer, Frederik and Mary will then travel to two territories of the Danish kingdom, the Faroe Islands and Greenland.

Melchior added: “They certainly needed time to establish in their new function. There have also been personnel and organisational changes in the Royal Court, which needed to settle down first.

“Also, they have school-age children and, like all Danes, they are bound by the school holidays.”

For the duration of their royal tour, the couple will travel from country to country aboard the Royal Yacht Dannebrog.

The official visit to the Faroe Islands and Greenland is “tentative” but for now it is expected that the Danish monarchs will visit in June and July this year.
