Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This 1968 Disney comedy stars Dick Van Dyke and Edward G. Robinson.

Answer: Never a Dull Moment

"Never a Dull Moment" is a lot of fun, and gives Van Dyke a chance to really show off his physical comedy stunts. Van Dyke plays Jack Albany, a TV actor who is mistaken for big gangster Ace Williams.
2. Which Disney film does NOT star Fred MacMurray?

Answer: The Gnome-Mobile

Fred MacMurray certainly was one of Disney's favorite actors. He portrayed Professor Brainard who invented Flubber in "The Absent-Minded Professor." In "Follow Me, Boys!" he played a scoutmaster who adopted orphaned Kurt Russell. "The Happiest Millionaire" was a musical costarring Greer Garson and Lesley Anne Warren (her debut). "The Gnome-Mobile" was not a MacMurray movie; it starred Walter Brennan and the two kids from "Mary Poppins," Matthew Garber and Karen Dotrice, who entered a mystical world of gnomes.

Some of MacMurray's other Disney films include "Son of Flubber," "The Shaggy Dog," and "Bon Voyage!"
3. Who portrayed Captain Nemo in "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"?

Answer: James Mason

This 1954 adaptation of the Jules Verne novel also stars Kirk Douglas and Peter Lorre. This movie is different from most standard Disney fare because it is aimed at an adult audience and combines elements of both action/adventure and sci-fi.
4. In "Blackbeard's Ghost," what item does Dean Jones' character purchase at the auction?

Answer: A bed warmer

Dean Jones was vying for the attention of the lovely Suzanne Pleshette, so he outbid a competitor and bought the bed warmer, which later resurrected Blackbeard's Ghost.
5. Which 1963 movie stars Hayley Mills, Dorothy McGuire, and Burl Ives?

Answer: Summer Magic

One of Hayley Mills' lesser-known films, "Summer Magic" tells the story of Nancy Carey (Mills) and her family as they movie from Boston to the New England countryside after the death of her father.
6. Which Disney film does NOT star Dean Jones?

Answer: Bon Voyage!

Dean Jones was another Disney favorite in the 1960s and early 1970s. "The Love Bug" introduced Herbie, the adorable Volkswagen, and Jones starred as his owner/driver. "The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit," costarring Kurt Russell, featured Jones as an advertising man who tries to publicize a horse as a stomach pill's mascot. Jones costarred with Hayley Mills and Roddy McDowall in "That Darn Cat!" as an FBI agent who follows Mills' Siamese cat to a kidnapper's hideout.

Some of Jones' other Disney films include "Blackbeard's Ghost," "The Ugly Dachshund," "Million-Dollar Duck," "Snowball Express," and "Monkeys, Go Home!"
7. In "The Shaggy Dog," which actor obtains the magic ring and turns into a sheepdog at the most inopportune moments?

Answer: Tommy Kirk

"The Shaggy Dog" was a black and white film starring Fred MacMurray as the dad who hated all dogs, Jean Hagen as his long-suffering wife, and Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran as their two sons. The older son, Kirk, was the one who found the ring. Corcoran was the annoying and often whiny younger brother.
8. Which Disney film is about a little boy on a farm who raises a black lamb named Danny?

Answer: So Dear To My Heart

Released in 1949, "So Dear to My Heart" stars Bobby Driscoll, Burl Ives, Beulah Bondi, and Luana Patten. Bobby Driscoll plays Jeremiah, a lonely little boy who takes care of an unwanted black sheep, determined to make him a blue ribbon winner at the county fair.
9. In which movie is Flubber a prominent "character"?

Answer: The Absent-Minded Professor

Professor Ned Brainard (played by Fred MacMurray--and what an apt name!) invents Flubber by accident one day, causing him to lose his fiancee (temporarily) and later save the basketball team.
10. Which actor portrayed Dexter Riley in the Medfield College movies?

Answer: Kurt Russell

Kurt Russell played Dexter Riley in "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" (1969) and "The Strongest Man in the World" (1975).
