Ken grew up in Rockford, IL. After graduating from Boylan Catholic High School he worked at Swedish American Hospital for over 30 years where he made lifelong friends and impacted the lives of many. Ken lived his life with grace, humor, and positivity despite living with ALS/PLS for over 15 years. He spent his days on the golf course for as long as he could. Once that was no longer an option, he lived vicariously through his grandkids and all their activities. Whether watching in person, on GameChanger, or getting text updates, he was always there. He always made sure his family knew how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. Ken was an avid Packer fan. He relished in all the Packer successes and took every opportunity to harass family and friends that were Bears fans.
Ken is survived by his wife Christine Nelson, children Sean (Sandy) Sara (Matt), Andrew (Hollie), Michael (Heather), Brian (Sam), and Haleigh (Chad), grandchildren Jennifer, Jacob, Jeremiah, Molly, Nathan, Charlie, Maecie, Carter, Chloe, Evelyn, Vincent and Van. His siblings Kathie (John), Pat (Jim), and Tim (Ann). He was preceded in death by his parents Harley and Frances Nelson.
A celebration of life will be held in Rockford, IL in June. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the ALS Foundation in Ken’s name.
