SMITHTOWN, NY — Ben Rosen, a sophomore at Smithtown High School West, captured third place in the International Oceans Film Festival, the school district announced.

Rosen was the only high school student in the United States to place in the competition, according to the district. He made a film about the importance of storm drains and clean water.

"He skillfully took beautiful drone footage of local waterways to tell the story of what people can do to improve water quality on Long Island," the district wrote.
