trail was lovely always easy to follow and navigate nice and flat. and 2 lovely pubs a cafe qnd a pasta bar at the end so anything you could fancy after a well earned walk.

Although there were parts of this walk a bit overgrown and muddy, there were great views with coffee and cake at the Fox in Finchingfield at the half way point. . Parked in Great Bardfield and went anti clockwise cutting the return short as missed the right hand turn but still a great walk, just wear long trousers!

Not suitable for children. Paths were very overgrown at the start with grass and stinging nettles. Even adults should wear long trousers. We had to give up.

Lovely walk through the country side and 2 pretty Essex villages. Some parts of the route were overgrown with nettles.

When it's been raining I'd definitely recommend wellies for the first part which is quite narrow. We saw goats, sheep, deer and horses along the way. Not too difficult, took approx 2 hours and we finished with a pint at the Fox pub

Absolutely beautiful walk. Nice paths to walk lovely pubs on the walk. Cracking.

Call the first half is on a little windy path at the end of peoples gardens, single track only and quite twisty. Not brilliant. The second half is across fields, much more picturesque.

Lovely walk. Really enjoyed it. Got to see some beautiful horses. Great parts of the walk for the dog to be off lead and enjoy herself exploring. Saw two amazing red kites flying overhead too.

Really nice route at this time of year. Saw only one other person outside of the villages. Beautiful day.

Very good walk. Be careful of the giant hog weed about half way

Great trail . Lovely villages . A few stinging nettles here and there on the track so I would avoid shorts

Easy

Loved it. Shame the pub was shut at Gt Bardfield

Very muddy!!

Lovely varied trail and easy with riverside, woods and two lovely villages. We started and finished in Great Bardfield where we had delicious lunch afterwards in Cole’s Cafe. At least 3 cafes and two great pubs in Finchingfield too to break the walk up. Narrow slippery path for 10 minutes out of Finchingfield but it is a wet February. Very nice walk and l would have given it 4.5 if possible.

Extremely muddy walk at this time of year and we did take a detour that cut off the end of the route to avoid more mud. Very enjoyable and absolutely will return!

An enjoyable hike but very muddy

Started from Great Bardfield. Lovely walk through farmland, veered off past GT Bardfield to avoid ploughed field. A bit muddy and overgrown alongside the river but OK.

Nice relaxing walk trail

A lot more stinging nettles in the summer but still a lovely walk and a nice lunch stop in Finchingfield.

A good walk for summer, map got a bit confusing but was easily fixed

Mud and Mills. Cute trails but super muddy. recommend to visit the Fox Inn in Finchingfield

Nice walk. Nice halfway stop for coffee. Could also have bought burgers! Must come back in the summer

Nice route but we hit a problem around the 5k mark due to pheasant shooting, so had to go back the way we came.

Lovely walk. Found it fairly easy to follow, there was just a few sections when it seemed to be in someone’s garden! We saw lots of pheasants and it was very quite and peaceful.

Lovely little trail - the first half mile in and out of Finchingfield weren't particularly scenic but overall would recommend!

Lovely walk round Finchingfield and the Bardfields, gets slightly overgrown in places and not tonnes of signs but you’ll be fine with the app. Would be a good dog walk, barely saw anyone

We did this on 24th May, clockwise out of Bardfield up the Pant valley. The first part of the route was really pretty, with the river in full flow in spite of the dry weather. A local resident of 40 years told us that water is being pumped, plus there is a water pipeline that runs all the way to Hanningfield reservoir. This route suffers in some places from landowners hemming the path in with fences which makes it very overgrown in stretches, especially the early section out of Bardfield and south of Finchingfield along the brook. If the dog walkers don’t do their bit I can see some sections getting totally overgrown before long. There is also a slightly confusing bit at Mill House where you go through gates and across someone’s back garden - strangely all markers removed there! Another bit to watch is on the hill out of Beslyns Cottage, make sure you take the track forking left towards the corner of the field. Other interesting bits are the back streets of Finchingfield and the old water mill just north of Bardfield. Our walk recorded at 8.9km and 2 hours 1 minute.
