The third overall duo in the tournament, Marcus Willis and Christian Harrison, won their quarterfinal matchup against the unranked team of Toby Alex Kodat and Strong Kirchheimer in two sets: 6-4 and 6-2. The semifinal-bound team said this is a product of chemistry between them.
"We started out the year playing together, we played a couple of weeks, then we got some good chemistry, and this is our fourth week in a row again," Willis said. "I really feel like we're starting to just build on each match and hopefully we're planning to play a lot throughout the season together."
"We're delighted to be through to the semis this week," Harrison said. "We've play two really, really solid matches and it's a lovely venue, so we get to stay here a lot longer as well, so that's nice."
They'll take on second overall Federico Agustin Gomez and Luis David Martinez not before 5:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
However, that is not the only match Gomez expects to play in Friday, as he will take on Andres Andrade in the first match of the day at 11 a.m. He got there after beating Aidan Mayo in an energetic and tense Round of 16 matchup.
"You just got to stay consistent," Gomez said on playing a tight matchup. "Just be there, I was up 3-1 on the tiebreaker, and then I went really quick down 5-3. So, I told myself, 'Just stay patient, stay here. If you have the chance, just go for it. But, just be patient.'"
Gomez appeared in the Sarasota and Tallahassee Challenger over the last two weeks and now finds himself in a familiar matchup.
"I'm playing the guy I actually played the last two weeks. So, it's going to be a tough battle," Gomez said. "We know each other pretty well, so it's going to be fun."
