Liverpool are nearing a deal for Ezequiel Garay, according to reports. It would be questionable to say the very least.
This comes from El Gol Digital. They claim that Liverpool are close to signing Ezequiel Garay on a free-transfer.
The Argentine hasn’t played for a very long time. A serious injury ended his campaign last season and then his Valencia contract expired.
He’s now available for nothing and as an out-of-contract player, can be registered according to FIFA rules.
Garay would come in as cover for Virgil van Dijk’s injury, according to the report. Liverpool see it as a free option that allows for investment elsewhere and that would tide them over for the rest of the season.

Just about every part of this is questionable. If it’s true – and we don’t think it is – then we’re not sure what Liverpool are thinking.
For starters, here’s what Jurgen Klopp recently had to say on Ben Davies, a signing on February 1st.
“Ben Davies had a test to adapt, it was always clear – a lot of players came here to Liverpool and the most famous story is maybe Andy Robertson,” he said, per the Echo.

“It took him half a year in a normal season to settle in.”
So Davies is still adapting, having been at the club for approaching two months. It’s quite reasonable to expect at least one month of ‘adapting’ for Garay.
At the very least, then, we’d say he wouldn’t play until late April. Would Liverpool really sign a player for one month of football? And that’s before considering that Garay is coming back from a serious injury.
One month of getting ready seems like a very, very optimistic estimate.
So no, we don’t think there’s anything to this. It’s hard to see how Garay would even get fit enough to play, let alone adapt to the first-team.
