Preface

Dear readers,

Thank you for your interest in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brunswick! We would like to help you learn a little about the history of our Church and what makes it special.

The Church can already look back on a 450-year history. No wonder that it has shaped the identity of the region of Brunswick since its creation. Many churches in our cities, towns and villages have a long history and connect us to the lives and faith of our ancestors.

Today, our Church has around 311.000 members and combines preserving our cultural heritage with modern forms of spreading the Christian message. In 299 church parishes, a great number of people are working to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ in word and deed. A wide range of church services, programmes for all generations and extensive social work are part of our life as a Church.

One of our Church’s treasures is that it not only includes congregations on the territory of the state of Lower-Saxony, but also from Saxony-Anhalt.

Let us take you on a journey of discovery through our Church. And come and visit us in person at one of our facilities or parishes. We look forward to seeing you there. I warmly welcome each and every one of you to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brunswick!

Dr. Christoph Meyns

Bishop
