Beyond books, it has public access computers, a maker lab, public meeting venue. An upgrade from your typical library. Smells like hobo during the summer.

The motto of the Eugene Public Library must be "Serve the Community." The structure is enormous for a city of Eugene's size, which also has a major research library at UO. The building is located very close to the city's transit hub, and close to pubic parking. Citizen access is encouraged in many ways. Spots for people to park bikes are very well used, reflecting another, healthy virtue of Eugene's zeitgeist. The stacks (shelves) are chock-a-block with a very good selection of books the general reader hopes to read, and holds mini-collections, right there on the shelves, of books a thoughtful librarian choose because a) the subject is locally important; b) the subject is topical and important; c) the public seems to want to read about the subject; and d) "just because".
Facility standards are great. The periodical reading area, for example, is a bright, open space with ample seating. The library takes providing internet access to patrons to heart. Access is free; the need for this amenity is obvious to the casual visitor.
Of municipal public libraries in smaller cities, the Eugene Public Library is an example other cities could study and learn much.

Modern, equipped with good technology, it's a great resource in the Eugene area. Membership is free for residents and the book selection is vast.

Our library has been awarded countless awards. Not only does it have everything books. DVD, books on tape, computers, excellent children's section, weekley events in other words something for for everybody, it is also very welcoming, pleasant and knowledgeable staff and get this a coffee kiosk with the best scones

Yes, the architecture from the outside is striking, and the reading rooms are beautiful with lots of natural light. But the entrance design is a nightmare: the cafe located in the foyer attracts the homeless in droves; they circulate between there, the chairs, the restrooms, and the public computers. It is a matter of fact that their lax hygiene habits now has a lasting effect on the building itself: many people report the odors are sickening.
The design also is flawed in another crucial area: the return is located, against all logic, directly through the atrium that leads to the stairs; the intersection also forces those visiting the most used space, the cd and dvd sections, to collide with them.
All in all, a massive disappointment and failure.

Sad that public libraries all over are much to embroiled in political correctness, their own city politics and being way-stations for transients.

It's amazing that Eugene, a city of only 160,000 people built this especially nice library.
It clearly was designed by people who honor books, reading, continuing education, beginning a path to a passion for reading and the value of a place for ALL of a community to convene.
The building itself is magnificent. The foyer has a lovely coffee bar which sells bagels and small treats for those in need of caffeine or a snack. Really a life savior when visiting the library with a child who might become fussy when hungry.
Speaking of which, the children's department alone is so charming and well stocked. There is a theatre there for sing-a-longs and an outdoor courtyard. Places to snuggle in with a book and lots of books on tape, videos and foreign language resources to choose from. The entire children's section has it's own wing across a beautiful appointed lobby from the rest of the library for the extra quiet factor.
The 3 floors are joined by a stunning sweeping spiral staircase with a glass ceiling above.
Be sure to note that the first floor bathroom is called "The Throne Room"--named to thank the local city ambassador 'The Slug Queen' for her help in raising funds to build the library. You can see portraits of all 34 Old Slug Queen (never former--they just get older!) behind the second floor information desk. Bravo Eugene.

A great place to go and enjoy public concerts such as the symphony. Plenty of food stations and restrooms for large crowds!

My out of town friends are always impressed by our local library. Beautiful construction with so much natural light. One of the largest DVD collections any where.

This is a very good library, with a lot of great material for the community! It includes much for consideration. I haven't encountered a library with a 3D printing capability for example. There are some powerful resources here! Thank you Eugene Public Library!!!
