Kristen Stewart thinks making a superhero movie feels like a nightmare but she would only consider a role in a superhero film if it’s offered by Greta Gerwig.

Kristen Stewart rose to fame with her role in the Twilight film series and has since become one of the most celebrated stars of her era. The Underwater star is a die hard fan of director Greta Gerwig and admits she’s a “super-duper” fan of her Barbie movie. Despite the success, Stewart has made it clear that she won’t star in a Marvel film. While appearing on the Not Skinny but Not Fat podcast, when the host speculated that she would look good as Mary Jane in a Spider-Man film, Stewart stated that the idea of making a superhero movie feels like a nightmare to her. The actress claims that she would only consider a role in a superhero film if it’s offered by Gerwig.

The actress explained, “I like big movies because I like people to watch them. When I’m in them. Like you’d have to put so much money and so much trust into one person and I think Dakota mentioned that this as well. It doesn’t happen. So therefore what ends up happening is this weird algorithmic experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it. If Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it. She’s my favorite. I’m obsessed with her. I’m a super, super duper fan of Barbie.”

While Greta Gerwig is yet to try her hands on superhero films, in a 2023 Rolling Stone interview, the filmmaker had expressed her desire to direct an action or superhero film following the success of Margot Robbie starrer Barbie. Gerwig elaborated that she finds well executed action movies to be delightful experiences and compares it with dancing. Despite her lack of experience in this genre, the filmmaker found working with the stunt coordinator on the film based on the iconic doll to be fascinating and enjoyable.

She added, “I think probably every director has a fantasy baseball league in their head of what movies they want to make and there’s some movies I’d like to make that require a big canvas. At the same time, I’ve seen so many directors move between bigger movies and smaller movies, Chloe Zhao doing Nomadland and making Eternals or Steven Soderbergh or even my weekend buddy Chris Nolan. He made the Dark Knight trilogy and they’re wonderful and then made The Prestige, which is not a tiny movie, but it is also not the same thing. I want to play in lots of different worlds.”

Meanwhile, Kristen Stewart has a history of starring in blockbuster films, she initially gained recognition for her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight saga, alongside Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen. Additionally, she featured in the reboot of Charlie’s Angels directed by Elizabeth Banks, where she shared the screen with Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska as part of the new generation of Angels. Most recently, Stewart impressed fans with her acting talent in Love Lies Bleeding. Earlier, Stewart turned heads with her portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer.
