Fiorello H. Laguardia High School Of Music & Art & Performing Arts Reviews

I came to this school to focus on my drama skills, and I am very satisfied with that aspect. I have had bad experiences with my academic teachers, but overall I think that LaGuardia is a good school. I would like to see more effort from the teachers to connect more with students. I would also like to see cleaner bathrooms. They're pretty disgusting.
I’ve had a great four years. Mostly good teachers. Rigorous academics, and I’m ready for college. The school definitely lives up to its reputation.
When I joined Laguardia High School, a community of talented people two years ago, I knew I was in good hands. I was shocked with the amount of freedom we were given. It taught me how to advocate for myself and I was able to find the true meaning of discipline. There are many opportunities to share your art with people who are just as creative as you and there's a ton of clubs that will help you refine your craft and gain memorable experiences. Laguardia has a ton of resources within and outside of school. After school, I would walk a few feet to Lincoln Center to either study, visit the Performing Arts library, or just to simply relax after a long day. The overall vibe of the school is very chill. The teachers are very understanding and most of them value your mental health. There are many delicious food options to choose from upon taking a one stop train ride either uptown or downtown. Although the environment is very competitive, it pushes me to become the best version of myself.
Laguardia is definitely a unique experience. The ambience of the school is to be appreciated as well as the people, however, the staff has some areas of improvement. While this does not apply to everyone, I do find that some teachers are lacking in compassion, communication and overall, common sense. Other than that, I’d have to argue that Laguardia is a nice place to be, offering many clubs and even more diversity.
Best parts: great community for students interested in the arts, a lot of potential opportunities, many clubs, many people to get to know, great arts department
Worst parts: administration is not the most organized, not good guidance counselor help (too many kids)

What an interesting experience this school is. It's so hard to explain without being there to experience it first hand. Overall 10/10 would do it again.
I love my school because of the warm, welcoming community of friends and teachers. Everyone is so kind at our school. I am really happy to be a student here.
Going to school on the Upper West Side everyday was a huge blessing. Everyday, I got to walk the halls with some of the most creative and bold people I know, sharing academic and art classes alongside each other where every major could pick up a skill from one another. At times, LaGuardia could be overwhelming. Like any high school in New York, things could easily get out of hand on a school day. I appreciate having lived this experience though, it has taught me that although my friends and peers are engaging in a risky activity, I am still in charge of my own choices. As a LaGuardia high school alum, facing the tears and joys of such a prestigious institution has been an unforgettable experience.
LaGuardia, while not perfect, has been an incredible experience. My family has felt more welcomed into the community in the first week then we did in 3 years in middle school. We are going into our second year at the school, and there were some challenges last year with outspoken parents on issues with the administration, but I am very excited about the new principal as he was both a student and teacher there and knows the community well. At the end of the day my daughter could not be happier, is thriving, and being nurtured at this school - and I truly believe becoming the best version of herself. And at the end of the day if she decides not to pursue a life in the arts, colleges respect the rigorous academics being taught in the halls of Lag - have you seen the list of ivy acceptances this year? She will be just fine.
My experience at LaGuardia was overall expectational. The community there is welcoming of all backgrounds and is a great place for someone that wishes to pursue the arts. The school provides a large variety of interesting academic and studio classes as well as challenging courses. Unfortunately, the school lacks in punctuality. There were many times when important notices were sent out one or two days before the deadline and many meetings on non-instructional days were delayed. I hope that this could change in the future.
THIS SCHOOL IS AMAZINGGGG!!! Such a kind community! Everyone is a big family, its fun and the programs are the best! The administration is amazing! and everyone is passing their classes because the academics are AWESOME!
The teachers and students at the school are great and they are all very supportive. It is overall a very great school
Fiorello H. Laguardia High School is generally a high school you can't fully grasp unless you experience it firsthand. The environment is filled with creative and extreme academic excellence and pressure. As a school, it does push its students to the best but I wish this could be said for all the majors. From an academic stand point, I believe the school has one of the best staff of teachers in the city to help their students grow. But whats lacking is in the creative aspect. Much of the school's attention and funding goes towards the drama department and dance and vocal. Since they are seen as the money makers for the school. This leaves majors such as the art department lacking in funding and general growth in helping students focus on their craft when the school doesn't deem the major as important when it Is the largest within the school. I do hope this has changed in the past few years since I graduated.
LaGuardia was my dream high school. I entered in 2019 and had the most incredible 5 months until the pandemic hit and everything changed. The minute I entered LaGuardia, I knew I was meant to be there. At LaGuardia, I was a vocal major where I grew more knowledgeable about my craft and even decided to pursue it in college. Because of LaGuardia High School, I started writing my own music, I met my best friends, and got opportunities that I wouldn't have gotten anywhere. I got to perform with some of the most amazing people and choirs in New York and I wouldn't trade my experience for the world. The overall experience was fantastic however, I can say that the school itself is not always the most organized or communicative. Things may be a little chaotic but it's part of the experience and what makes the school interesting. LaGuardia is truly a place where different walks of life and different artists can come together under a commonality, a passion for the arts.
Attending Laguardia High School has had both it’s ups and downs for me. I’ve received many opportunities in the arts which has been wonderful, and I’ve also been able to perfect my craft, which I’m very grateful for. I’ve created bonds with many people and have had many great mentors and teachers in music. My issue with Laguardia High School, is my relationship with some of my academic teacher’s. Though a lot of my teacher’s are good and supportive, I’ve had multiple teacher’s who seemed a bit unenthusiastic in their lessons. I don’t expect my teachers to always be excited to happy to teach, yet I’ve had teacher’s in the past who have never seemed interested in what they’re teaching, which creates a learning environment that’s hard to stay focused in.
The best part of Laguardia is that I am able to play my instrument the whole day and I am exposed to many talented artists. I also have the opportunity to be part of many performances. I haven't had a bad experience at Laguardia but something that I would've liked to have at the school would've been having one-on-one lessons with the teachers.
Love the community and atmosphere. Needs work on organization in order to improve the experience. Overall such a great experience and environment!
