Elizabeth (Plantagenet) de Bohun (abt.1282-1316) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree
On 18 January 1297 she married Jan I, Count of Holland and Zeeland, at Ipswich Priory Church, Suffolk. He was born before 12 Aug 1283 and died 10 November 1299.[3] They had no children.
On 14 November 1302 she married Humphrey de Bohun, Knt., Earl of Hereford and Essex, at Westminster Abbey.[1] They were the parents of:
Margaret, died young (born about 1303,[4] died 7 February 1305/6[5])
Humphrey, died young (born 10 September 1304,[6] died 28 October 1304[7])
Elizabeth died from complications in her last child’s birth.[11]
"The History of the foundation of Walden abbey records the birth apud Quenden of quædam filia to Humfridus de Bohun and his wife Elizabethæ…regis Angliæ Edwardi…filiæ during whose birth her mother died, and in a later passage her burial at Waldon [612]."[3][12]
"Elizabeth died at Quendon, Essex 5 May 1316, and was buried at Walden Abbey, Essex."[1] The Walden Abbey Cartulary, in Monasticon Anglicanum confirms that Elizabeth died on 5 May 1316 ("tertio nonas Mai").[13]
Research Notes
Names: "Elizabeth of England" in Richardson's works and Cawley's database, which both have her born at Rhuddlan, but do not call her "Elizabeth of Rhuddlan", as her Wikipedia article does.[1][2][11][14] "Countess of Hereford" is attributable to Verity, but neither Richardson nor Cawley use that title.[15]
Earl of Hereford; Earl of Essex:
Richardson has her husband as "Humphrey de Bohun, Knt., 8th Earl of Hereford, 9th Earl of Essex", and her sons John and Edward as simply "Earl of Essex and Hereford".[1]
Wikipedia's article on Elizabeth has "Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford, 3rd of Essex," but follows that information with a citation needed annotation. The Wikipedia article also lists her sons John and Humphrey as the 5th and 6th Earls of Hereford (respectively), son William as 1st Earl of Northampton, and daughter Margaret as 2nd Countess of Devon.[11]
Cawley says that Humphrey "succeeded his father in 1298 as Earl of Hereford and Essex, hereditary Constable of England", and calls sons John and Humphrey the same, saying John "succeeded his father as Earl of Hereford and Essex, hereditary Constable of England but this office was removed from him 26 Oct 1330 in favour of his brother 'on account of his infirmity'".[2]
First two children: Richardson has different dates for Elizabeth's first two children, who died young: Margaret (born 1302; died 7 February 1304) and Humphrey (born 1303; died 15 July 1304).[9] For a full discussion, justifying the dates given above, see the Research Notes section on their profiles (Bohun-197 and Bohun-38, respectively).

Thanks, John. I have amended the dates for the first 2 children, with references to the main sources, and added a short paragraph to the research notes referring to Richardson having different dates and pointing people to the research notes on the 2 children's own profiles.
Michael Cayley has completed some great research into the first two children, Margaret and Humphrey and has found that the dates of birth and death as given by Richardson aren't necessarily correct.
Can we change those dates please on this profile? Michael has updated the profiles of those children and the main sources can be found there. Thanks
Longshanks-5 and Plantagenet-533 appear to represent the same person because: These 2 profiles both represent Elizabeth the daughter of Edward I, please merge. Plantagenet is the preferred LNAB, Longshanks is her father's nickname and not appropriate to be applied to her.
FMG lists 10 children for Humphrey and Elizabeth. The list includes William (Bohun-35), son of the duplicate Elizabeth, but it does not list Hugh. The source for Hugh appears to be Wikipedia, which lists 11 children, including both Hugh and William. The Wikipedia article states:
"Hugh de Bohun? This name appears only in one medieval source, which gives Bohun names (see Flores Historiarum) and was a probably a copyist's error for "Humphrey". Hugh was never used by the main branch of the Bohuns in England.[4] Date unknown, but after 1302, since she and Humphrey did not marry until late in 1302." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humphrey_de_Bohun,_4th_Earl_of_Hereford
The Unmerged Match of the duplicate Elizabeth's should be merged, as there is no conflict in the children, just an additional Hugh, who may or may not have existed.
Of Rhuddlan-4 and Plantagenet-533 are not ready to be merged because: Large differencies in dates and other data that need to be resolved prior to any merge.
Can we change those dates please on this profile? Michael has updated the profiles of those children and the main sources can be found there. Thanks
