Elisabeth Murdoch is a media baroness who commissioned Ron's Gone Wrong. She is an Australian-born Anglo-American executive who used her personal wealth and enterprises operated by her family, the Murdoch dynasty, to arrange the financing and distribution of the film. She is dedicated the title "executive producer".

20th Century Fox was operated by the Murdoch family, which became 20th Century Studios.

Sarah Smith explained that Locksmith Animation originally arranged distribution with Paramount Pictures under its chairman Brad Grey, who wanted them to create the film. However, Grey died and was replaced by Jim Gianopulos, who dropped the deal. A few weeks later, Smith pitched it to Stacy Snider at 20th Century Fox. She was enthusiastic about it, and contacted her business partner Murdoch.

Murdoch founded the company Sister, which would hold a stake in Locksmith Animation

The parent company of 20th Century Fox, 21st Century Fox and previously News Corporation, was founded by Murdoch's father Rupert, with her brother James as CEO, until 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney and renamed to 20th Century Studios. Along with Disney shareholders, the private film investment firm TSG Entertainment co-financed the film. Murdoch and Snider founded the production company Sister which would hold a stake in Locksmith Animation. The opening titles for the film has a byline that reads "A Sister company".
