AND THE RAISES BEGIN ON JULY FIRST. SOME LOUISVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PUT THEIR MEDICAL SKILLS TO THE TEST THIS MORNING, THE TEDDY BEAR CLINIC ALLOWED THE RAMSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THE HEALTH SCIENCE PATHWAY TO TEACH THE SKILLS THAT THEY HAVE LEARNED. THIS YEAR, STUDENTS TAUGHT A GROUP OF FIRST GRADE STUDENTS FROM FARMER ELEMENTARY HOW TO CHECK VITALS, GIVE VACCINATIONS, AND EVEN APPLY BANDAGES ON THEIR STUFFED ANIMALS. WHILE IT WAS A TEACHING MOMENT, IT ALSO HELPED YOUNGER STUDENTS WITH THEIR FEAR OF DOCTORS. OH MY GOD, THEY’RE SO EXCITED WITH THEIR. THEY LOVE TO SEE THE NEW DEVICES AND STUFF. WE ALSO. I MADE IT A LITTLE EASIER FOR THEM TO TEACH THEM. LIKE MY DOCTOR HELPS US AND WITH THE SUCCESS OF THE EVENT THIS YEAR

Eighth-grade students at Ramsey Middle School were able to put their medical skills to the test with a first-ever "Teddy Bear Clinic."The students, who are on a health science pathway, invited a group of first-graders from Farm Elementary to learn certain skills they have learned from the past year. "One thing we tell them is the one way you know you know you've mastered something is to be able to teach it to somebody else, and today showcases that," said Alex Claycomb, the Explore Coach at JCPS and Ramsey Middle School. They did just that. Many stations were set up that allowed the eighth-graders to teach the younger students how to check vitals, give vaccinations, apply bandages to their stuffed animals and much more. Although fun was had, the main goal of the clinic was to help the younger students lose their fear of doctor's offices."I remember feeling scared of the doctor's office personally, so I think that it's really good for them to get to experience this and know the doctor's office isn't as scary as it sounds. And also for them to explore their dreams, because you never know, a first grader could be interested in becoming a doctor," said Ruqayah Kahammas, an eighth-grader at Ramsey Middle. With the success that was had with the clinic this year, Ramsey Middle School hopes to continue this event in the upcoming years.
