People often don’t know what’s good for them. Most of the time, the disconnect can be attributed to a lack of perspective — give someone a short-term solution, and they’ll happily create a long-term problem. It’s a phenomenon of human nature that capitalism has been all too happy to exploit, and thanks to recent “advances” in factory farming, the world is now literally eating itself to death.
So goes the premise of Christopher Quinn’s “Eating Animals,” an urgent but uncertain documentary that amplifies and expounds upon the argument Jonathan Safran Foer laid out in his 2009 book of the same name. That idea explains how we went from living off the land and killing only what we needed to where…
I was really excited to see this, despite not knowing a lot about the approach. I guess I'll start at the end. Someone at the Q&A asked the filmmakers if they were vegetarians or vegans. Natalie Portman (to her credit) identified as a vegan. The filmmaker, Christopher Dillon Quinn, said he sometimes eats meat. I don't know why you would make a documentary on horrible "factory farming" methods and then say you still eat meat. Apparently, it was only sometimes and I understand that. However, you can't tell everyone they shouldn't participate in buying meat that contributes to suffering when you do so yourself. That makes no sense to me.
I took detailed notes and they are somewhere. I could…
natalie portman got that ASMR voice that makes me love her AND vegetarianism even more
I watched "Eating Animals" on German TV in synchronization and wondered why the German ARD shows an American documentary about industrialized meat productions since Germany is one of the largest location for industrialized lifestock farms.
What also surprised me was the this is not an US production but from all over the world although it takes place 95 % in the USA.
Apart from these thoughts, this is a well staged (in reference to camera, cuttings, information brokerage and the people it shows) documentary which illustrates the problem ot a meat based diet not only by showing how badly the so-called productive lifestock suffer but also explaining the historical and econimical background, the situation of the ranchers and farmers in…
This is definitely one of those documentaries that if I didn't already commit my life to never eating meat again, this would definitely solidify it. Like, of course there are a million reasons not to eat meat. I personally don't feel okay with eating the meat of something that once lived. I just can't justify that to myself. I started at the beginning to be healthier (did not work!) and to also try and cut my personal carbon footprint and really went into my own personal spirtual relationship with animals.
I enjoyed the way this documentary was made to point out who was really at fault here and that's industry farms and the government. People who won't regulate how things…
Alright so I kinda feel like this definitely sorta predicted the Coronaviruses outbreak. Kinda crazy.
I gave this 5 stars for a hugely subjective reason. It's probably not really a 5 star movie, though it is still a good documentary. But I like what it's promoting. And since I'm a vegan, I automatically think it makes the movie extremely important.
I'm a vegan for ethical, environmental and health reasons. Basically every reason there is. However, I'm far from perfect. I just found out last week some vitamins I was taking had gelatin in them. I only started my second stint as a vegan last year. No one is perfect and the problem at times is vegans make perfect the enemy of good.
At first I had some problems getting on board with this movie. I…
already writing vegan substitutes in my notes !! might watch what the health next to learn more <3
There's not only shown a gruesome truth but also a bright side, which is why it wasn't too heavy but still really eye-opening.
I don't want everybody to become vegan but you should just take a look at what we consume every day...
