Eamonn Holmes has admitted he is still unable to walk as he returned to work after four months convalescing.

The 63-year-old TV presenter admitted the spinal surgery he had in September 2022 has set him back rather than improved his health as he returned to air on GB News show Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel after several months off.

Holmes told viewers: "Basically, I can't walk. I can do everything... everything above here [gesturing to his waist] works, but it's the legs.

Co-host Isabel Webster said: "The op that you had has set you back, at the moment."

Holmes replied: "Yes, it's set me back and it made me fall down stairs. My leg gave way and I fell down 18 stairs. So I fell down the spiral staircase, smashed my right shoulder."

He added: "The first thing you did was lean on my shoulder."

Webster laughed: "I won't be doing that again or you'll be off for another four months."

Holmes announced his return to work on social media, saying he hoped it would "heal" him.

The former This Morning presenter admitted his recovery process has been frustrating and he was eager to get back to the show.

He said: "I'm not better, but I'm better than I was. And I've decided to make an attempt to go back to work, on GB News from tomorrow on the basis that work will hopefully heal me.

"Any of you that are long-term sick or in any way convalescing particularly at home will know that there's a lot of frustration involved in it.

"For me I think I'm going to give it a go, be back to work and hopefully get better as a result of doing day-to-day things."

Holmes had suffered chronic pain from back problems and had been walking a cane before he had back surgery in September.

But the former GMTV star – who is married to Loose Women star Ruth Langsford – is now forced to use crutches after the spinal surgery caused the setback to his condition.

He previously revealed he had fractured his shoulder after suffering a fall at home.

The TV star had three slipped discs in his back caused by a dislocated pelvis and has suffered ongoing problems for the past few years as a result, including chronic pain and insomnia.

Holmes said his pelvis "mysteriously" dislocated in 2021 and put his back out of alignment as a result.

He underwent a double hip replacement in 2016. The surgery was carried out in a bid to tackle excruciating hip, leg and back pain he had secretly suffered for more than 20 years.
