Christopher Landon is to make Drop, a new thriller whose cast is coming together. More on the movie right here.

It’s been several months now since Christopher Landon – he of Happy Death Day and Freakydeparted Scream 7 as cast members Melissa Barrera (currently on the big screen in the terrific Abigail) and Jenna Ortega left the films for different reasons (Ortega’s commitments to shooting the new series of Wednesday were said to have taken her out of the film). Landon was reported to have moved on at the end of last year, but even then, it was weeks before that he apparently quit the project.

While Kevin Williamson picks up Scream 7 – with a returning Neve Campbell – Christopher Landon has effectively gone home, to Jason Blum’s Blumhouse company. Well, that and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes. The two production companies are coming together for the film Drop, that already had a bit of casting in place.

We already knew that Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar had signed up for lead roles in the film. Now we learn of a pair of new additions too: Violett Beane and Jacob Robinson have joined the ensemble. What their roles are? That’s anyone’s guess at the moment, as Christopher Landon absolutely isn’t telling just yet. Still, the fact that casting is this advanced does tell us that filming can’t be very far behind.

Universal is the studio distributing the picture, and it’s based on a script that’s been written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach. The only description of note out there about the film suggests that it’s a thriller, and a pacey one at that.

No word yet on a release date, but it’s looking like the film could be ready in early 2025. Given the track record of Christopher Landon, it should be worth looking out for.

More on Drop as we hear it.
