Sophie Wessex, 56, Prince Edward, 57, and Lady Louise, 18, ventured to Norfolk for a church service on the Queen's Sandringham estate. Pictures taken close to the church show the Earl of Wessex driving a Land Rover Discovery accompanied by an aide in the passenger seat.

Sophie and Louise can be seen sitting beside one another in the back seats of the vehicle.

The Countess wore a winter weather beige coat while her husband opted for the smart suit and tie.

Their daughter was seen in a blue coat.

The Wessexes were last snapped attending church on Christmas Day.

The trio were accompanied by son James, 14, for the festive service alongside Prince Charles, 73, and Camilla Parker-Bowles, 74, at Windsor.

The Queen's cousin, the Duke of Gloucester, also attended the service with his wife.

The Wessexes then spent the day with the Queen, 95, for the monarch's first Christmas since the passing of Prince Philip in April.

However, the monarch opted not to attend the service.

This was understood to have been a personal choice.

The decision to celebrate Christmas at the Queen's Berkshire address was the second year in a row COVID-19 has derailed the Firm's usual festivities.

Last Christmas, the monarch spent Christmas with the late Duke of Edinburgh.

This year's announcement came after the spread of the Omicron variant.

Covid cases were soaring towards 100,000 daily cases by the time the Queen announced she would change her Christmas plans.

The royals tend to spend Christmas at Sandringham and had done so from 1988 until the pandemic reached British shores in 2020.
