Mohegan Sun welcomes the Dropkick Murphys

    Dropkick Murphys (submitted)

Not sure how many sets of unused lyrics the great folksinger Woody Guthrie left behind, but contemporary musicians are glad he did.

First there was the Billy Bragg/Wilco consortium that dipped into the Wood Man’s cache and put his words to new tunes on the “Mermaid Avenue” album.

Then, in 2022, Boston’s Irish punk mainstays the Dropkick Murphys, inspired to create songs with other theretofore unpublished Guthrie-ness, came out with an album called “This Machine Kills Fascists” (an allusion to the slogan on Woody’s guitar).

Now, scarcely a year later and still in fevered support of working people everywhere, the Murphys are releasing “Okemah Rising,” another set of fresh music behind (even more!) Guthrie lyrics.

A lot of this material is acoustic, but do NOT assume this lessens the signature Murphys energy and fury.

See how this works in concert when the band hits Mohegan Sun Thursday.

The Dropkick Murphys with the Interrupters and Jesse Ahern, 7 p.m. Thursday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $29.50-$35; mohegansun.com.
