What an amazing dinner we had here to top off our wedding anniversary day! The ambiance of this place pulls you in and everything seems to be art... from the table and chairs, eclectic pieces and of course, the presentation of the plated food. When...making reservations online, we put “anniversary” in the special comment’s section. When we got to the restaurant and gave our name, the hostess quickly wished us a happy anniversary and when seated, looked down at our menus and they had preprinted “happy anniversary” and the date 4/9/21. Brad Chipper was our server and he couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful in making menu suggestions. For our entrees, my wife chose the filet mignon and I the lamb. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. The sides were generous and despite the temptation for dessert, we declined. We are from the Palm Beach area and love to get away to the slower pace of Mt. Dora. 1921 will definitely be on our must do list when we return.More

I decided on 1921 for my birthday. It’s been a place that I’ve wanted to dine at for some time. The dining room was very nice. Really enjoyed the look. I started off with the beef tartare. Everything tasted really nice. It came with chips,...but I think a good crusty bread would’ve gone very well. For the entree I ordered the duck. It was cooked very nicely and the plate looked good as well. It was a very pleasant evening and would recommend to others to try. Well done.More

We ate here 2 nights in a row, based on our experience on our first visit. Unfortunately, our first night experience was quite different than our second. Overall, the restaurant is comfortable with a great atmosphere. Social distancing is still in place here, which was...a deciding factor on our initial choice to dine here. Our first night, we were greeted by a friendly bartender that took pride in her craft. She made recommendations for us, and kindly offered to make something else if we weren't happy with her suggestions. We were pleased with all of her recommendations. We were then seated for dinner and had the same experience with attentive and accommodating service. The food matched our experience, with each dish being innovative, well prepared, and well presented. Unfortunately our second visit, the service was almost absent and very inattentive. Our server would disappear for 15-20 minutes at a time. He never checked on us after serving us, and we needed to track him down when we needed something. We also had to remind him several times about our cocktail or wine orders. It's unfortunate that the service is so consistent.More

The restaurant was not as upscale as we had anticipated. We saw one patron in daisy dukes. We were definitely over dressed. The meals were very expensive with the emtrees requiring a la carte sides, as well as a charge for salad and bread. I...ordered the filet Mignon and it was tender but there was so much salt, that was all you tasted. With a price of $39 just for a steak, you would have expected it to be perfect. My husband ordered shrimp and scallops with zucchini, eggplant and rice. The rice had several hard pieces, and the seafood portion was minimal at best It should have been advertised as a vegetable dish. His meal was also extremely salty The staff was polite, but were dressed somewhat casually for dinner service in a very high priced restaurant. The music was loud which made it difficult to carry on a quiet conversation.More

Virtually everything about my experience at this restaurant was disappointing, except for the summer sangria. That was delicious! I had a reservation for a table in the dining room, but when I arrived there was no table available and I was seated in the bar....The noise level and ambiance was typical of a bar and not reflective of the high end experience I was hoping for or the high cost of the meal served. Prior to arrival I went online to review the menu and was shocked to find when I got there that the menu was completely different. Honestly, I should have left at that point. My bad. While the menu was impressive if you are a meat eater, there were very, very few options for those who do not eat meat. Even the salad had duck fat croutons in it. There was 1 fish entre I could have ordered but it was unimpressive. I ended up with a mixed grain and vegetable dish that was mediocre, at best. Not worth the high cost. My server was gregarious and friendly, but extremely slow and and inattentive. For example, I waited 20 minutes to be asked if I wanted a drink once I was seated. When I ordered my entre the wait was another 30 minutes. The server never checked back with me after delivering my entre and I had to leave my table to find another server to order a second drink. It took a half an hour to get my dessert, which was cheesecake - not something that requires special prep time. To her credit, the server recognized the unacceptable delay and removed the charge for the dessert from my bill. I was so looking forward to experiencing what I anticipated would be a superior dining experience. The reality didn’t even come close.More

It started with the hostess looking down her crooked nose at us because we did not have a reservation. Then she ‘studied’ her seating screen to see if she had an opening. She then took us to a mostly empty dining room that never filled...up during our visit. The waitress was the best thing about our visit. She helped dissect the menu. We found the food to be good but not to our liking. The pork steak was tender and flavorful but not worth the price. The pastrami was way too spicy for my wife. As we left I told my wife to take a good look because we won’t be back. Lakeside Inn just down the street is much better for the same price.More

So I have eaten at 1921 several times and the food is generally good but last night there was a big issue and it was handled so poorly I had to write this review. I ordered the Australian Wagyu flank steak and it was absolute...garbage! The steak had no flavor whatsoever and the jus the steak was sitting in had no flavor either. my boyfriend and his son both were served lovely meals and tried mine and agreed it was bad. Instead of the bartender asking if he could have the chef re-fire the dish properly, he asked if I wanted something different. This tells me he either did not believe myself and my party about the complete lack of flavor or he knew the dish was a Poor selection to begin with and he should never have suggested it to me. I do not mind paying for a good dish that I simply don't like the taste of but I am deeply offended to have to pay for a bad one that was Poorly prepared by the chef.More

Average food. Toxic loud environment. Premium prices. Never again! My “prime” steak tasted like it came from Walmart. After such great reviews by others I can only hope this was an off night. And shame on you for telling us the only seat you have...for us is by the kitchen (yes, we had a reservation) then seat other parties of like size in prime locations. We spent $$200 and listened to dishes clank and watched people scrape plates all night. Yeah...not a great experience.More

WOW! I don't think that's ever happened before, liking a restaurant so much that we went back again the next night. But that is what we did! We had a great waiter - Brett - who was very professional and attentive while being unobtrusive. We...started by splitting a dozen oysters on the half shell, the first night from New Brunswick (maybe) and the second night from Prince Edward Island. Excellent oysters! Night one we had Duck and Tilefish, delicious. The second night after the oysters we split the Steak Tartare (maybe just a little too much flavoring but still good) and then a pizza - the Salumi, definitely large enough to share and fabulous. Both nights we had a bottle of Petit Chabilis. There is a very extensive wine list by the way. A wonderful experience both nights, highly recommend this restaurant.More

This is a nice popular restaurant in Mt Dora downtown. The cocktails were amazing, beet root salad very good, the roasted oysters just perfect. The filet mignon was good but pricey, the meat balls were nothing special.

As foodies, we were excited to try the 1921 Restaurant after moving to the Mount Dora area recently. We may go back to try again in case the kitchen was just having an off night, Overall, we have been to much better restaurants locally. We...were well dressed (not so much many of the diners including scrubs and shorts) and had a reservation for dinner at 7:30pm, but the front of the house tried to seat us at a bar high top table first. That was weird. We asked to be seated at a regular table. The music was very loud. 1921 is supposedly "Fine Dining" but seems not from an ambience perspective. Our tomato starter was just submlime. Also got some raw oysters which was very weirdly served on top of a small tray of sand. I thought a cardinal rule of fine dining was never to serve anything that was not edible. We had to ask as the fact that there was sand on the plate was not explained when it was brought. In the dim lighting, we thought at first it could be seasoning, so wanted to check. Our entrees were disappointing, meh. Maybe the kitchen had a bad night. The small brussell sprouts served with the Duck Confit were almost completely raw, not al dente. The rest was just good not great. The raw brussel sprouts were off-putting. The Tile Fish Etouffee was very sad as the fish seemed as though it had sat under a heat lamp for a very long time and was practically inedible, at least the top part. The bottom part was just tasteless, no sesoning or flavor. The etouffe components were delicious though. Our bottle of wine, a grenache, was very good, and our server was excellent. So it was a very mixed bag experience. Not so much fine dining. We may go back once more and try again, if only for the Tomato Starter. But at this time it only deserves at best 3 stars.More

Service was horrible. Food ok. Way overpriced. I show a picture from there website about an entree I’ll like to order to the waitress and she said this is an old picture they don’t have it anymore. Also at the end of the meal I...ordered an espresso with a Calvados, I got the espresso but they forgot the Calvados ($15)… And at the end on the bill they billed me $20 more for a bottle of wine wich was $40 so $60 but we could change it. Again the service with this lady was a Desaster. Also They even didn’t have a hamburger wich was on the menu…More

Enjoyed a birthday dinner there. Really loved everything. Food was divine, service was exquisite. Milk buns were good, do not agree with another reviewer that they were dry. The oysters were amazing. And the chocolate ganache was one of the best desserts I’ve had in...a long time. A note to management: Please allow your staff to show their beautiful, smiling faces. I promise you there is a constituency of clients who would gladly patronize your restaurant in a return to normalcy. In fact, these are the people you should be catering to, not the “too scared to leave their home for 18 months” crowd who would have gladly watched you go out of business for fear of a virus with a 99.8% survival rate. Don’t cater to the cowardly! Be brave, cater to normalcy and the crowd who’s been supporting small businesses this whole time. Thank you!More
