Songfacts®:

  • This song captures Chris Janson's love story with his wife, Kelly Lynn.

    Done
The first time I saw you, done
Like the first dance was through, I was done

The opening line is what Janson actually said to his friend the first time he saw Kelly Lynn. He recalled to Taste of Country: "I saw her right down the street from here at Melrose Pool Hall [in Nashville]. First time, I was like, 'Done and done, marrying that girl.'"

Janson goes on to declare a lifetime of devotion to the love of his life.

Like the cowboy gets the girl when the credits roll
I'll give you a lifetime of days in the sun
  • Kelly Lynn has been the subject of a number of Janson's previous love songs, including the Buy Me a Boat track "Holdin' Her."
  • It was Janson's pal who bought up the title after hearing the singer say "done and done" repeatedly. Janson told Radio.com his buddy commented to him, "You say it most when you're talking about Kelly. 'Done and done.' You're on the phone with her and just 'done, got it.'"

  • I Love Your Songs! from MassachusettsI had a friend that drunk girl was written for.... I tried to tell her... Massachusetts doesn’t have men... I couldn’t follow her... so she was all alone.... I wish you could have saved that one!
  • Wondering from Dunn, NcWhy doesnt the words say, Like the cowboy gets the girl when the "credits run" intead of "credits roll"? It would rhyme so much better.
  • Pamela from Maryville Tennessee I Totally love the song Done. I love Chris and all his songs
