When Domhnall I 6th Earl of Mar was born on 25 July 1243, in Kildrummy, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, his father, Uilleam Earl of Mar, was 21 and his mother, Elizabeth Comyn, was 20. He married Elen ferch Llywelyn 'The Younger' in 1266, in Kildrummy, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters. He registered for military service in 1296. He died on 25 July 1297, in his hometown, at the age of 54, and was buried in Abbeytown, Cumberland, England.
