Lord of the Rings star Sean Astin is shooting a new movie titled A Social Contract, from director Jason Mac.
According to Deadline, the actor will appear opposite Craig Parker (also of Rings fame – playing Haldir of Lórien), Domenica Cameron-Scorsese (Cape Fear), Christopher Wallinger (King Richard), Angela Morris (Shining Girls), Samora Smallwood (Star Trek: Discovery) and Rachel Kang (Power Book IV: Force).
"A political dinner turns deadly when a group of power-starved politicians fight for a seat of survival on a helicopter at the onset of a nuclear war," reveals a synopsis.

Astin, who Stranger Things fans will fondly remember as Bob Newby, said that the story is "about what we mean to each other when we are afraid we are going to die".
Filmmaker Mac went on to explain: "I've long been fascinated by the idea of 'if I knew I were going to die tonight... what would my last hours be?' Would I try to run our escape? Would I be in denial? Or try to accomplish one last thing or right a wrong?
"So, to take that thought and apply it to a group of power-starved politicians allows us to strip away that social mask we all wear. We get to reveal the desperate and darker parts of what lives inside us. And we get to explore at what cost is our personal survival."

Just a matter of weeks ago, Astin was confirmed as part of the Hard Miles cast too, starring as "benevolent local bike shop mechanic" Speedy.
This real-life tale centres on Colorado's Ridge View Academy, which for decades provided at-risk youngsters a second chance via competitive sports, academic rigour and targeted treatment.
Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
