Canton Man Arrested for Capitol Assault

In Cleveland, Ohio, FBI agents arrested a Canton Man on Friday. He’s accused of pushing police officers and trying to break into the U.S. Capitol during the attack on January 6, 2021.

Investigators found Clayton Norris, who is 48 years old, in pictures and videos at the Capitol. He was there before breaking through police barriers and encouraging other rioters to move forward towards an entrance.

Norris is facing serious charges in a federal court in Washington D.C. These charges include causing trouble in public (civil disorder), as well as less serious crimes like going into and staying in places where he wasn’t allowed, being disruptive in those places, using violence, and causing harm in the Capitol area.

No lawyers are listed in the court records for Norris, and they haven’t scheduled his first court appearance yet.

Thousands went to the Capitol after then-President Donald Trump encouraged them to “fight like hell” to prevent the confirmation of his loss to Joe Biden in the election.

In court papers, an FBI agent said Norris got to the Capitol around 12:45 p.m. He was wearing a black sweatshirt that had “resist” written on it.

He went past the police lines and used a loudspeaker to shout at the officers. He kept chanting “Stop the steal” and “fight for Trump,” as mentioned in official documents.

Norris assisted a group in breaking through a metal barrier despite efforts by officers to stop them, according to court documents.

Norris was among the first to arrive at the steps in the middle of the building’s east side. He yelled through a loudspeaker, “Get those folks out here to chat with us,” talking about the elected leaders in the Capitol building, according to official documents.

Norris pushed against a police officer’s shield while trying to enter the building. He backed off when the officers sprayed tear gas into the crowd, as stated in court documents.
