Beautiful movie worth watching and/or buying. "Even in the storm, even in the pain and the wind, there is so much beauty. The whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty".

So true. At least to those who can see it or want to.

I liked Ms. Watts here a lot. Was a great casting decision. She brought the awesome strength of the real life Pam Bales to the screen. She looked very comfortable in her role. But the revelation for me was Billy Howle (John). His performance felt so incredibly authentic, that I couldn't see the actor or the real person behind the role.

The direction by Mrs. Szumowska was sensible in many aspects. Even in the absolute silent moments, a lot is told. The pace-tempo was comfortable without lacking intensity and realism. Hence, great edition. I liked the fact that the reasons for the characters' pains was left to be shown at the end. Smart move, because very early in the movie the questions come up.

Last but not least, the photography. The scenery and the time span on screen to show them, went like a gently, persuasive speech for our natural wonders. An example of the productions you can make without investing billions.

PS- My only disenchantment was the fake snow in the scene in the hole after Pam's fall.

I have spent time on Washington in the winter. Almost 40 years ago I spent a week, in January, on top living in the Yankee building while doing a photographic essay for college. I have never been more impressed, more scared, or in more awe. The raw beauty of such a place, in the dead of winter, is breath taking.
This movie gives you so many emotions to explore and absorb that you can't help, but feel changed after watching it. Naomi Watts inspires in so many ways .....while dealing with her own depth of emotions.
You will appreciate just how lucky you are after having seen this.

I love Naomi Watts so I was a bit disappointed with this movie. Just OK, a bit of a bore.

Very well done film of a wintertime mountain rescue for anyone unfamiliar with that environment. You could almost feel the wind driven sleet. The excruciatingly slow descent is very realistic; see symptoms of hypothermia.
Had to laugh at some of the negative comments. One guy, who must be suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, said any SAR member would carry a kerosene lantern to warm a snow cave. Another claimed Pam fell into a crevasse while the movie showed her falling through a snow drift into snow covered brush (which I have done).
Forget the naysayers. This movie is worth watching even though it was filmed in Slovenia, not New Hampshire.

""Poetry" captured the essence of this movie most eloquently. Note that I said "movie" Miss Emily Expert (NOT). This was not a documentary. The "movie" (in my non-expert opinion) captured ones fear of possibly again failing to save a life. In this case, I think it may have helped Pam, in some minute way to (while not healing) place a coating over the tragic pain of losing her girls. Miss EE should just stick to movies more her speed (like Dumb and Dumber). Kudos to Naomi Watts for another "spot on" performance.

Infinite Storm is poetry and philosophy with a no less impressive veneer of a physical adventure. In the visual backdrop is a mountain in the chaos of a winter storm, a metaphor for the infinite storm that all people contend with in one way or another and that is an essential story of human life. Against the backdrop are two people, a professional mountain rescuer who happens to climb this mountain on a day of remembrance of an incident that took her children's lives, children who she tried but did not manage to rescue. On this day a storm reaches its zenith as she reaches higher elevations where she finds a man dressed in sneakers and summer shorts who is unresponsive and suffering hypothermia. The rest of the story is a tale of tenacity on the part of them both as they work their way back down with much difficulty. This was an intense and harrowing rescue bringing much satisfaction and a sigh of relief when it is done, but the punchline revelations come at the very end when rescuer and rescuee face each other in the warm safety of a cafe each delivering the closing lines of the poem that is Infinite Storm.

I enjoyed watching this film a lot, however it is not a perfect five due to the cinematography. I feel the beauty of a mountain in the chaos of a stormy winter was not captured to the fullest. This was a lost opportunity to bring to film breathtaking views of the mountain scenery in one of its more dramatic moments, but perhaps this can be explained as the cinematographer did not want the audience to cozy up to the natural scenery, but rather be mindful of its dangers and grayness.

Naomi Watts is here again and as usual an inspiring powerhouse of acting. She is a joy to watch working her craft so expertly. Polich director Małgorzata Szumowska happens to have been born on the same day as this author which might explain why I think I understand what she conveys in Infinite Storm.

Mal wieder eine großartig gespielte Rolle von Naomi Watts. Absolut sehenswert. Sehr, sehr spannend. Geht ans Herz. So eine Hilfsbereitschaft gibt es wirklich selten.
